I have been a season ticket holder for many years, a graduate of UC, played baseball for many years, and follow baseball ( both college and pro) becasue I love the sport. How do you know I don't have some money I wouldn't mind contributing if I agreed with the direction of the program and that I believed the right person was in place to lead the program in a different direction? Expectations = performance. That is a starting point.

Offering for you to be part of the solution. From the discussion - more donations will help with the funding issue.

Again - from the discussion you have read I am the one that is not convinced that the right guy is in place to drive success in the program and am not convinced it is solely a funding issue. There is a team from NY that appeared in Omaha that is not a fully-funded baseball scholarship program this year and a MAC school also. Until that question is answered why would I be interested in contributing my money. I need to see evidence that the right guy is in place and expectations are not so low that being non-competitive is an answer.

I think you have been the one talking about the lack of funding being what keeps UC from being competitive with everyone but Oakland, Chicago State and the alphabet soups the entire thread Skippy!!!! Having trouble reading between the lines? Come on - you covered the baseball team - why don't you show it? We watched the same thing.

Eliminate personal ties that is the only way to be objective about a subject.

Most years we have been more competitive. You seem to be so focused on one horrible season. We just ended a streak of 6 years where the team was .500 or better.

I have no personal ties. My relationship with Coach Cleary and the rest of the UC baseball personnel is purely professional.

One year? Nope. Last 3 years in conference tourney, 0-2, 0-2, did not qualify. Take out the easy wins at the start of the season from teams visiting Cincinnati at the start of the years and they were under .500 all three years during regular season. That = non-competitive with top programs in the conference. Last time they were competitive = Campana, Harrison, Osterbrock years. Can't live on catching fire in a bottle forever.

I keep bringing up Oakland, Chicago St and the alphabet soup because when I pointed out my disappointment with the scheduling of those teams and said Cleary needs those type teams to pad his win stats that is when you guys started jumping on me telling me how good THIS YEARS team was and I even was told they could win 40 games by Otto. Wow were you guys off!!!!!! I assure you my impression of Cleary as a coach and developer of a program goes beyond this year and includes the low expectations that you guys so defend.

Well subflea must be right - if a change were going to be made for next season we would have heard something by now. To use the overused cliche', or as Tracy Jones says on WLW - "it is what it is".

You can beat the underfunded scholarship issue you just need to recruit players with good grades that have higher ACT scores. That allows them to be funded by academic money instead of athletic money. There is way more academic money available than athletic money. Don't buy the excuses. Does anyone know if Kent State is even fully funded.

You are right, there will not be a change this year or it would have already happened. UC already made a hire for a spring sport, a new lacrosse coach was hired. They also would have fired him before the CWS so they could do interviews there

With regards to UC gear outside of the 275 loop, there has to be a market there for stores to ask for it. If you go to the Cleveland market, for example, I'm sure it is saturated with Ohio State gear. Let's say UC fans make up 5-10% of that market, or at least those fans who are willing to buy UC gear. Does that warrant stores spending the money to keep Bearcats gear in inventory? I'm not sure and that's up to the stores themselves. From what it sounds like, there isn't enough ROI to warrant stocking that much UC merchandise.

I agree subflea is correct on that one. Wasn't expecting anything different. Doesn't change my thinking though. We will see if next years performance changes that. If not I will return.

I agree that this year was not good and I thought that they would be in the neighborhood of 40 wins. I'm sure if you asked the coaching staff they would have said that as well.

But if you want to play the "if" game....If you take away the first two years of the program after Cleary took over and the two years of 100% of road games when they were building MSS, Brian Cleary has a record well over .500. Works both ways.
