SBC in talks with Little Rock about a Bowl game
Officials with War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock will be meeting Friday with Sun Belt Conference officials about the possibility of hosting a bowl game in 2012
Apparently the SBC is not happy with the way the Go Daddy Bowl has been run in recent years. (See Ladd-Peobles Stadium)
The game would supposedly feature the SBC against a team from Conference USA/Alliance.

Ladd-Peebles isn't a work of art but its a damn well run event.
I love my hometown but Little Rock wouldn't remotely touch the sort of event that Mobile puts on.

Isn't this more likely an attempt to found a bowl that would give the SBC a third tie-in and not replace the GoDaddy.com Bowl?

It's just my opinion that the GoDaddy bowl is a better organized event that the New Orleans Bowl.

Where is the link to this?
Doesn't South play all their home games there...

Agreed on both accounts. Everyone loves going to NOLA for the city alone, but Troy and MT fans can both attest to how much better of an event the GoDaddy.com Bowl is.

Yes, but there are plans of an OCS in the works.

The Godaddy.com bowl is a well run bowl in my opinion, however the stadium is one of the worst I have ever been in.

USA is going to invest in a better sound system and giant screen for Ladd that will be operational either this year or the next, as per the AD.
Hopefully sooner rather than later.

I went to both the GoDaddy.com Bowl in 2010 (MT lost to Miami ) and the BBVA Compass Bowl (Pitt beat Kentucky ). Ladd-Peebles Stadium is nicer than Legion Field in my opinion, but both stadiums aren't exactly top-of-the-line stadiums like, say, LP Field in Nashville.

Both Ladd and Legion are over 50 years old. Ladd has had more improvements done over the last 15-20 years then Legion Field has. Ladd isn't a beauty queen, and we all know the down falls of an older stadium, but she does the job. Mobile has supported that bowl very well, and with South stepping up this season, I just see more support coming.
I think a bowl in LR will be in addition to, not a replacement. Will this new bowl be owned by ESPN like 15 of the other ones???

Bowl Game for Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium?
By: KARK 4 News
Updated: February 23, 2012
A college football bowl game could be in Little Rock's future.
The idea came up today during a meeting of the War Memorial Stadium commission.
Nothing has been decided yet, but the commission hopes to enter talks with the Sun Belt Conference, whose head comes to town tonight for UALR basketball games being played through Saturday.
War Memorial officials want to talk to the Sun Belt about a Conference USA/Sun Belt Bowl in Little Rock next year.
Although it's still early in the discussions, one suggested name for the bowl game is the Rice Bowl because of Arkansas' ties to the rice industry.

How old is War Memorial, I know ArKansas plays a few games there a year, how big is the stadium.
I always ask these questions then go and look for myself for some reason...

Its about 50 years old, but the City does a good job keeping it renovated because if they dont, they know Arkansas will pack their bags and play all their games in Fayetville.
Stadium seats just over 55,000

I would prefer to play someone other than C-USA or the MAC for once. It'd be nice to secure a low-seed Big 10 or Bix XII program.

I'd wouldn't mind seeing a Big East team. with the added teams they will be looking for some more bowl tie in themselves.

The stadium may be bad, but the people of Mobile really support their bowl.

oh yeah, I LOVE the GoDaddy.com Bowl. Why on earth is our League unhappy with it? Great location in the middle of the footprint, good match-up, good date for the game, and the city really gets behind it. the stadium isn't the best but who cares? it's not a dump like Legion Field.

The entire "Pre Game Day" stuff was top-notch, especially the parade & fireworks. I've also heard the luncheon where Chris Carter spoke was great. The restaurants downtown were clearly not prepared for the number of fans that showed up though. They all said they weren't prepared and didn't have enough staff so there were long waits, poor service, etc. The game experience itself was terrible (& I'm not just talking about the outcome). The shuttle service (that all of the downtown hotels were pushing) was terribly underserved. After waiting on the bus for a half-hour, with not one showing up (they were filling them up at other hotels), we took a cab to the game. All of the bowl merchandise (except NIU stuff) was sold out hours before the game. Concessions were sold out at halftime. The Audio & Video was terrible. The game apparently lasted longer than the shuttle service had expected. They announced on the PA that the buses would stop running at 11pm even though the game was not over.
All of that being said, I had a great time, the weather could not have been better, and locals supported the game which made it a great experience. There's no way I would move this bowl to LR (even though I live in AR...LR would not support it very well IMHO).
