It would be a huge mistake to let UMass go.

How would UMass football only help us? Temple and UCF didn't help us, just caused a lot of scheduling issues, BG had to change divisions a few times, odd number of teams, and the school had no plans of staying. Then they left. UMass fans are already talking the same way and they haven't even played a game yet. How does this help the MAC?

Where does the MAC go from here? What about UMass, their biggest A-10 basketball team just left too.

HAHA this is so...01-wingedeagle

"The Mid-American Conference's exit fee is $2.5 million with two years notice, but it's unknown what the amount what be by providing less than a year's notice, a source said."

The MAC office better get 10mil for this.

Even if it's five million Temple will pay it and good on them.. I just hope getting to the Big East does not turn them into Marshall fans..

Let's hope that no school ever turns into Marshall fans.

UMass fans already talking like Temple fans. At this point I think it would be a mistake to let them continue in the MAC as football only. They clearly already talk down to the MAC and view it as a 2-3 year stepping stone and then they are off and we are left with another mess. I understand they want to do whats best for their program, but if they don't want to be here, then let them go now instead of later.

What are you going on about? All I see are fans who would rather be in an AQ conference someday. So would you. One fan overestimated UMass's attractiveness to an AQ conference and was called on it by other UMass fans. Nobody was crapping on the MAC. Nobody has even complained about the basketball games. Most of us see them as an improvement if anything.

Didn't your hockey team just completely abandon Bowling Green (and try to do the same to WMU) for a higher profile conference that doesn't even get you better access to an AQ nor is as good a geographic fit? If Miami would do that, they obviously wouldn't hesitate to ditch MAC Football if a better opportunity came along.

UMASS in the MAC means MAC games being televised in the nation's 14th largest market

UMASS will also be the largest FBS program in New England as Buffalo is the largest in New York State. It's good for the conference to have programs in it that are the largest in their region. Helps fight the "small time" stereotype.

RE: Temple to Big East?
I don't look at it as a case of Temple being above the MAC but I do think they will be competitive in the BE if this move is true. While they may not win 9 games right away in some respects I think the team that Golden and now Addazio is building is more suited to the "straight up" style the BE plays as opposed to the more wide open, explosive style most of the better MAC teams play. Look at Temple vs. say WMU their offensive stats like ppg were similiar but their styles were very different. Temple is built more like Rutgers, strong ground game, defense, just enough passing to mix it up.

First, I understand Temple moving all sports to the Big East, but there is an old saying about water finding its level and I think Temple football found its comfort level in the MAC. A primary reason the program is doing better and competing is that it is competing in the MAC and for anybody to think Temple football is now somehow above the MAC is foolhardy at best. Although going to the new Big East for football may actually be a step backward.

As for UMASS posters at their board ... seriously? They actually think in 2-3 years they will be positioned to move "beyond" the MAC? With that attitude, I sincerely hope MAC teams deliver some serious smackdowns in the next 2-3 years as a reality check. The MAC may not be the Big 12 (thank God!) but it still is above FCS from top to bottom.

Frankly, if the MAC loses Temple, it would be nice if the MAC could rescind its offer to UMASS and avoid the divisional mess of 13 teams.

I like to make fun of Syracuse too, but is Buffalo really bigger in football than Syracuse? Is UMass bigger than BC?

Or while the Big LEast looked every which way possible and wanted other schools before finally sucking it up and looking at Temple. This was all about being a last resort, the last kid being picked to play that they thought would be interested.

It will take longer than you think IMO. Keep in mind, Temple went 8-4 last regular season. Those 8 wins came against teams with a combined 26 wins total! You won't be playing Akron, Kent, CMU(!) in the BE. Temple did well avoiding NIU and WMU while losing to Toledo and Ohio. I agree you guys are a better fit in the BE, but it seems like all fans make the statement that their recruiting will be better in an AQ conference, therefore they will be much better when they move up.

RE: Temple to Big East?
Valid points but on the other hand I really don't think the BE overall is that much stronger then the top 4 to 5 MAC teams. We beat the conference champ last year handily, Toledo had Syracuse beat this year, WMU beat UConn. I see a good number of BE games with Rutgers close and think 6 wins would be doable right off the bat.

My point exactly. Temple was 0 for 4 against the MAC's best last year (lost to 2, didn't play 2). You would have to play the entire BE conference correct?
