I think that is certainly a logical possibility.

New TV contract wouldn't kick in until 2014 so a championship game in 2013 is unlikely anyway.
CJ

Big East could sell the championship game seperately- a la what the Pac 12 did last year to fox.

True...just saw another report that The Big East would have 13 with UofL in 2013 or 12 without. With all the coming and going in membership, you got to have a doctorate in mathematics to keep up conference membership.

well I think with everyone now
Big East would have in 2013 14 teams including Pitt, Louisville, Syracuse. If Pitt and Syracuse stick around until 2014(pitt says they're not paying 1 cent mroe than the 5 million so guess that'll leave them there)- that'll be 12.

I would hope that ECU would refuse to do that. The former MWC teams need the former CUSA teams to remain viable. Bad mistake if former CUSA sign their rights away. No one knows what the future holds. That is why UofL, UC, UCONN and RU refused to do the same with The Big East.

I would agree for now but if a Network approaches with vastly different numbers for a contract depending on whether or not that tv rights agreement is in place then it might then be in everyone's best interests to sign.

I wonder if the Temple/MAC situation would be more like the TCU/Big East than WVU/Big East since their new agreement with the 2 year period and buyout is part of the UMass addition, which won't actually happen until the fall.

But it's unlike the TCU situation in that the season is only months away and schedules are likely set now with UMass and Temple. Does UMass want in the MAC without Temple? How do the 8 MAC schools who had Temple on their schedule fill that void at this late date? The BE hurried an invite to Temple to fill the WV holes in the schedule. Does the BE have any interest in assisting the MAC with their new found scheduling issues? Could get a little nasty.

The BE has now added 8 teams ahead of ECU, and likely have at least 2 or 3 teams rated higher on their wish list (and likely 8 to 10 more in the future). What is going to make them change their minds now?

I think taking ECU would put a real hurting on the alliance for one thing....

Taking another east team gets SMU/Houston/Boise/SDSU looking elsewhere

I am wondering if the Temple move will mean the MAC is in serious danger of getting taken over to in regards to teams looking to get out to join The Alliance with better tv, better bowls, and what not....

this could be setting up the MAC, which is arguably better than the Sun Belt to to start feeding The Alliance East.

I would guess a lot of the MAC schools enjoy the geography of the league and wouldn't miss Temple/UMass.

I hate to say it to ECU fans, but UNLV would be added before them.

Preaching to the choir.............friggin Southeastern South Carolina State Community College would get added before ECU. Reading stuff about the BE is like chewing on glass.

I tell ya one thing I don't get about the process. Once a team has been invited and whether they've officially / unofficially joined or not, they ought to have a say so / vote / two cents / opinion or something concerning any additional schools that get invited. I mean it affects their future in the league as well. So shouldn't Boise, SDState,Houston, UCF, SMU, Memphis get a vote and would it be reasonable to think that at least Houston, UCF, SMU, Memphis and maybe USF (Holtz) would want to consider a USM, ECU.

RE: NY Times Reporting Temple in Talks to Big East for All Sports
At least the nBE is consistant by adding another team that ECU has a winning record against. With Temple ECU will be 49-43 all time against the nBE.
On a more relavent note though, I agree that this is the most sensible thing that the BE has done with regards to market saturation. There aren't any teams left in the NE that the BE could possible make a move at. If the nBE can't get tv viewers with their lineup then the NE just doesn't care. It will be interesting to see what their renegotiated tv deal will be.

As to the comments about ECU being the one pushing for everyone to sign over long term tv rights, I don't buy it. What's the motivation for ECU to do so? Most of the teams rumored as part of the alliance aren't any more attractive in regards to a TV deal than ECU is. I would think the smaller schools that bring less to the table would be the ones pushing for USM, Marshall, ECU, and major market teams to sign away long term rights.

This leads me to assume (perhaps incorrectly) that Boise for 2012 isn't going to fly.

I personally think (and again, just opinion), this just made it much more likely that the BE knows Louisville is on the way out the door to the b12..

This is one of those instances, where the BE gets credit for being pro-active... it just took longer than it probably should have

RE: NY Times Reporting Temple in Talks to Big East for All Sports
I've been saying the Big East would have at least 12 committed members before 2013 for tv rights negotiations... now the question is... who is #14? Will Air Force, UNLV, or BYU board for football only to balance the west or will they seek an all sports member like east like ECU or south like USM? And how many more join 1 or 2, assuming the loss of Louisville in 2014?
