Heck, that bike is probably worth $2,800.

Giant isn't a bad brand bike. If you feel like you can trust carbon fiber, I just found a 2011 giant trance sl carbon fiber bike (full suspension) for $800. If it is in as good as shape as they claim, this is a deal. The only bad thing is it is not 29" rims, but it is still a top level 26" bike for $800. Fox shocks all around. 120 travel on the front.
http://memphis.craigslist.org/bik/2865368581.html
It is a large size bike which would probably work for someone 5'8" to 6'2". If you go this route, make sure you check the frame really well, tire condition, gear condition, brake condition, etc.
I think this bike sells for around $2500. So if the bike checks out ok, it is a good deal at $800.
Wow, I may check that out myself. I really want a 29'er but a shot at disc and full suspension for that price is to good to pass up. My wife is going to kill me when I come home with this

If everything is in good shape, and it is not stolen, you could flip that bike and double your money.

That's what I was thinking but on Craigslist if it's to good to be true it usually is

RE: Mountain Bikes
I really love my Specialized Hardrock Sport. I've had it since 2008, and beaten it to death at Stanky, Wolf River Bottoms, Herb Parsons and Sylamore.
I've heard various hit and miss stories about the components on Specialized new hardrocks, but for the money I have gotten a lot of bang on mine. I found a used one on craiglists for $200 a few months ago and picked it up for my roommate.
I don't think you need a full suspension for anything around here. Unless you're going to be regularly heading to the Ozarks you'll be fine with a hardtail. Spend the cash you save on disc brakes.
I got mine at the Peddler, but they are now a Trek/GF only shop. Bikes Plus has treated me well in the past.

I love my Speci!
Due to my original frame getting warrantied, I have this frame http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCB...r&eid=6060 with this Component Set http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCB...spid=45804 .
Of course I've added tires, pedals, etc.

I've heard they're pretty good about not upselling you into something you don't really need; I haven't been in there, though, so can't speak from personal experience.
I heard about this place the other day from a buddy of mine. I need to check it out. Where do you ride to test ride a bike there?
I'm not sure...unless there's some space back behind or to the side of the building, maybe?
I can't remember how close that place is to the little side street where the 'brown dog lodge' dog daycare is...maybe you just take it up that street.
There certainly isn't room out front....my friend owns the yoga studio pretty close to it, and getting in & out of there is a nightmare.
Just like going to Belmont. I literally can't remember how many times I've stumbled out of there to only play frogger across Mendenhall late at night. Sobers you up real quick.
I know what you mean. I love the Belmont, but I frequently have a hard time turning IN there and finding a place to park.

The most important thing on a Mountain Bike is how you fit in the cockpit.
What style of riding do you have around you? Is it more XC or do you have Mountains?
Giants are typically the best bike for the $$$ that you can spend; however, I would not purchase their cheapest full suspension bike.
I'm not interested in a mountain bike; that was the OP.
I'm interested in more of a comfort/hybrid/road bike, just for casual Greenline riding right now.
I have a retro Electra which I love. It has fat tires, no gears, and gets lots of attention, being a retro. It is very easy to peddle, and I ride it all over downtown. I ordered it online and had it shipped to Midtown Bike who assembled it and fitted the seat height to me.

why do men's bikes have the higher crossbar, and women's either don't have it, or have a low one? you would think that a man wouldn't be too keen on a metal bar being that close to some 'sensitive material.' just do away with it!
I have often wondered that myself.

I'm actually going to check on it today. There is no location listing on but I'm more worried it's stolen. If it is stolen they did their research with the spec list.

There's another nice bike on craiglist. It's just like mine but a different color. Little more pricey too, so i doubt this one is stolen.

You guys should have seen me riding my 50 dollar wal mart bike the 7 miles at herb parsons.
I almost threw that bike in the lake. The gears slipped going uphill and I smashed my knee good. Then my brakes went and I almost hit a tree going at a pretty good lip.
No more 50 bikes, lol

I know. They do seem pricey, but the bikes are worth it.
Let me know your price range and height (so i can figure out what size bike you need). Also, did you want the 29er or a 26er? I'd really recommend the 29er. Pm me the info if you want. This way i can keep a eye out for you. I'm currently searching for bikes for 3 other people, so i'm out there looking constantly already.
Trust me. If you get a 29er with at least a decent shock and disc brakes, you will find climbing hills much easier. You will notice you will be able to do more. You'll enjoy the upgrade over a walmart-level bike. I guarantee it.
Btw, your current bike made need to be adjusted (brakes and gears), but it is not worth fixing. It would cost at least $75 at a bike shop.

Those Walmart bikes have warning stickers on them telling you not to use them "off road". Be careful with them.

I finally noticed that it's a large and for Giant it's 20" and that's a little to big for me. I did go to Peddler and looked at some of the Treks and I like the Xcaliber and the Superfly. I think I'll just stick with the hardtail around here and get better components. I need to check out Bikes Plus and Outdoors.

Bad brakes is a big deal. You can probably adjust it yourself it it's just a matter of the cable stretching.

Lol, I was hoping to spend in the 400 range, but I see that is difficult. I am intrigued by a 29 hard tail. I am 5-11 and weigh 185ish depending on how much running I decide to do. The older I get,the less of that I want to do lol.
