never gonna happen...

Which one? or neither?

scheduling belmont mostly. but the likelihood of the other probably wont happen either...

And that's just sad. ETSU should schedule games in Nashville and Memphis if for nothing else but recruiting purposes. It's the same reason Josh Pastner at Memphis doesn't want to play Tennessee, only the opposite. There's some straight ballas in the Boro, and I know it realistically won't happen, but it should.

What would possibly be in it for Belmont?

RE: Asheville
Home games. One of the major issues facing one bid conference teams is the scheduling of home games. Hell, we piss and moan about it all the time. It's why ETSU and Troy had home and home games, or Marshall/ETSU have done home and homes in the past within the same season. Belmont will still have the issue of getting home games with their move to the OVC, so why wouldn't they schedule ETSU? On their end, they view it as two winnable games from a basketball perspective, and from a non-basketball perspective it's a fairly inexpensive road trip. It's a bus game, one night in a hotel vs. a couple if they go elsewhere, and ETSU fans have proven that when the product isn't complete sh!t that they'll travel.
We had this discussion a few threads back about scheduling road games OOC in destinations. An MTSU/Belmont road swing not only provides assistant coaches recruiting time down here during the off day between games, it also provides fans the chance to see two familiar opponents in a region where they also could possibly take in a Titans game (schedule permitting), among other things. Then the return trip turns into a huge weekend fanbase wise.

my wife and I would have probably gone to Nashville this year if the game(s) had been Thu//Sat rather than Sat/Mon.

It looks like UNCG clinched the North last night with Elon's loss to Davidson. So UNCG will have the North Division title with 12-17 record. (11-17 if you only count Division I wins) Impressive!

Looks like Asheville worked out for the Southern. Announced crowds of 4,500 to 7,500 for all sessions.

Pretty bummed that Western didn't win. I was really hoping they would pull off the upset.

And, should have had the opportunity to be part of it. Thanks to the Stanton/Mullins athletic model, which is still in place, it, of course, was impossible. Watching this SoCon final in Asheville opened old wounds for me, and I am as angry today as I was nine years ago. No amount of spin or out right lies will EVER make this go away. It is now part of ETSU athletic legacy and certainly the legacy of Paul Stanton. For all that the man ever did for ETSU, this will forever tarnish that.

Again, what will Dr. Noland do about ETSU athletics?

30 minutes from the Whee to Asheville and Davidson has a good following. Short of Chattanooga being better and making it instead of Western they couldn't have asked for a better one.
Oh, and remember all that fussing about that dumb a.d. at UNC-Asheville for double booking Kimmel Arena? Asheville hosted both championships at Kimmel Arena. Looks like she knew what she was doing all along.

hold on big man...the point was not that she double booked the arena nor was it that asheville should not have tried to host the socon.

if memory serves, i made the point that the unca AD and university chancellor made the decision to waive the right for thier mens basketball team to host the bsc championship game in-lieu of the socon womens tourny being hosted there instead. which resulted in a firestorm of backlash form the community, alumni, students, head basketball coach and even basketball recruits. now it worked out for everybody, only after the socon commishioner stepped in and suggested they move the game to the old arena, after the unca brass and bsc commishioner dug thier heels in. my sole reason for startinig the thread was to point out that the decision was made by the AD and chancellor to wiave the right to host the bsc championship game for $10,400, that was later reported.

now it all worked out for the city and unca, but not without a cost. if she(and she) had it to do over again, and they will get that chance, my guess is they wont make the same blunder again over ten grand.

all is well today in ash-vegas....but there may be more fallout to come. see link: http://www.uncafans.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=657
