Hypothetical Question
Curious........If UNT were to leave the Belt (CUSA invite), would remaining members want to invite new teams from Texas (UTSA and/or Texas State) or pickup members in the Southeast ? Quite a distance from San Antonio to Lafayette, Jonesboro and Monroe.

RE: Hypothetical Question
If we lose North Texas then contract the footprint. Period.

Benson mentioned that we "need" to maintain a presence in Texas but I don't see it. Sure it is a great recruiting ground etc. But so is California and I don't want to be in there either.

I have no doubt that they would take UTSA and Texas State if we lose UNT, but WHY? 03-banghead

Let's have a conference where most members can drive to most other members for games. Lets have a conference where most schools have an easy drive to a centralized basketball tournament.

RE: Hypothetical Question
I like easy drives and I'm against California teams or even any more teams in places like Denver. But losing Texas would be terrible from an improvement standpoint. Right now were looking at a 800,000 per school TV deal if we keep up the good work. You lose Texas and were back to where we are now.

It's a necessity we stay in Florida and Texas.

I've heard nothing about this? Where did this come from? Does this get diluted if we go to 12?

And how much are we "looking at" if we enter Ohio, New York, Michigan, California, and Pennsylvania?

RE: Hypothetical Question
I hope if we do expand it is in places such as Texas St and UTSA. I have been to the campus of Texas St. and it is a beautiful campus with a nice football stadium in a nice sized town right on the main interstate. Texas state is situated right between Austin and San Antonio and it is a growing population area. Not saying we have to take them but I can see the potential they have. As far as moving into MAC territory, no, no and no! I have no desire to play in any colder climates for football games and don't see any advantages for any other sports over what we have now.

It's an assumption but look at this history of the belt.

We are new to football you don't invest money in new things unless it's sure hit which we were not. The Sun Belt has has 1 maybe two bowl eligible teams since 2002 and that trend was suddenly broke by the out of no where run of FIU. Then ULL, ASU, and WKU followed up.

When all these teams + Troy, UNT, and MT start getting bowl eligible the networks looking to fill their inventory will start to invest more money. Because no matter where you are people for a main part only watch if your team is winning.

We have the markets we just have not had the products to sell until last season.

RE: Hypothetical Question
A good point, and remember guys, we caused the NCAA to create a rule that said even without 6 wins, if you win the conference your in, thank you UNT. And like you said, we are now, at least this year, getting multiple teams bowl eligable. Hopefully that will continue and more people will take notice. I did read somewhere that the Independence bowl was looking to end their relationship with CUSA. If we can get into a bowl that has a tie in with one of the AQ conferences, that would be huge.

Uh huh.

UTSA and Tx State do not deliver Texas.

If North Texas leaves then contract the footprint. Period.

UTSA does deliver San Antonio. We had some fans attend USA's game there and they came away very impressed by UTSA's visibility and support throughout the community. I think they'll deliver their market better than any SBC team in a similar-sized or larger one.
