Benson, Sun Belt and basketball
All the talk has been about football, conference realignment and who's going where. Now let's talk about the basketball side of things. The WAC did play pretty decent basketball at one time. What can Benson do to help Sun Belt basketball and does he finally get us out of Hot Springs??? That never did make any sense to me.

I'm a Troy fan, the only sports that matter are football and baseball. maybe after the new arena is built we'll learn the rules to basketball.

Hot Springs put up the best bid. Somehow I doubt that changes.

Yeah! I just found this out not too long ago. 03-melodramatic Basketball is sure on the rise in the Sun Belt though, with MT's best year ever and UNT's freshman sensation. A good sign: crowd of 7,605 for MT's senior day versus FAU. Never would have thought it would happen after last year. And MT's only losing two players for next year. That will be something else. If you can't tell, I'm very excited for MT basketball.

And I hear its pretty good in the belt...ya know...winning tournament games, getting multiple bids to the big dance, beating top 25 teams, or just flat out being ranked in the the top 25...ya know, those kind of things. God, I love me some College baseball, and I'm thankful we're in this conference when it comes to that.

Hot springs is home to the tournament. It has everything you can hope for: tons of stuff to do, a community that wants the tournament there, 2 courts, 45 minutes from a major airport... The list just keeps going.

Have you been to the tournament in hot springs?

Unfortunately I have never been. I will actually be in Arkansas a few days before the tourny starts. From Feb 27-Mar 01. But the tourny doesnt start until the 3rd I think. So that didn't work out for me.

I like it in HS, but just wish stAte could actually take advantage of our close-proximity in the tourney. Maybe this will be the year since I have zero expectations.

That's the only bad thing about it always being in HS, it's convenient to the ArKansas schools, but not for anyone else. If HS has been that inviting, that is awesome and greatly appreciated that they want this event. I just think for the other fans in the conference it would be nice to either be more centrally located or go back to moving it around the campus stadiums.

As long as it's played in Hot Springs I'll not go back.

I like the mvc model of having a fixed site. The moving site is a bad thing, imo. When the host school goes out the crowd does too.

I don't know that there is a better city for the tournament.

Nt can drive over
Ualr and stAte can drive over
Ulm short drive

Everyone else has to travel to come but flights to little rock (45 minutes to hot springs) or direct to hot springs exist.

The 45 minute drive from the airport to the arena is no worse then any other "major" city that would host the tournament. Pick a city. NO? Dallas? Nashville (already has 2 tournaments)? Is the airport within 45 minutes of the arena?

It is a great site and i don't see anyone else asking us to drop by and host the tournament.
