Exclamation From Coachingsearch.com
UAB: Sources tell me that quarterbacks coach Jeff Brohm has been promoted to offensive coordinator. I have also learned that former Ohio State tight ends coach John Peterson will join the staff as offensive line coach.

Coach seems to think so. You can bet that McGee is going to be very hands-on re the offense anyhow.

I trust his judgement to be rather better than ours.

This is kinda what I expected. I don't think it is a bad choice. McGee obviously had it right with the first choice for OC, I have to trust him on the second.

The bigger question is with the OL coach. He has his work cut out for him.

I think this is going to be a fun season. I love the enthusiasm and apparent smarts Coach McGee is bringing to the program. I'm looking forward to seeing how everything progresses.

RE: From Coachingsearch.com
If this turns out accurate I believe this will be good. Brohm has worked under Petrino same as McGee. They both are on the same page on the offense and the terms used. Very few people are harder workers then McGee. Saw his office at Ark and at the time he had every blitz package that Alabama had run the year before diagramed on his wall to figure out how to beat it! I bet that by the time the season starts he will know the other conference teams every defensive move. He will install a very complicated pro styled offense (like Ark) with mutiple formations, options, reads, etc. it will take some time to get the players in the correct roles but they will end up winning. He is changing the entire "mind set" of the team and it will pay off long term. Most say they have never worked this hard! Hard work now will pay off in the fall! Can't wait!

This is true. The players I have talked to say that a major change is under way. They are working their A$$ off but LOVING IT. There is a level of enthusiasm and belief that has not been there before.

Great news! Looking forward to seeing the results! I'm hoping to see some of the guys bulked up, bigger and stronger!

RE: From Coachingsearch.com
I hope the guys actually look like in-shape, D1 FB players. During the CNC era many of the guys did not show the progression in body development I expected. The big guys seemed to either remain the same size or simply got bigger (as in thicker, not "cut"). The skill guys seemed to be the same size they were when they came to UAB. Our MLBs body shapes were thick while our OLBs looked thin. Maybe I expect too much to have a 275 HS OL to be a cut 310+ as a Sr or a 175 RB to be a cut 195-200 as a Sr with steady progression toward that as they mature.

It looks like Coach Mallory has a chance for the OL job at MTSU. Good man and I wish him all the best.

RE: From Coachingsearch.com
I do not think you are expecting to much. The new strength coach, Coach Chandler, is working them hard and will put the muscle on them. He will get them bigger, stronger and faster by the fall. It will take a year or longer ( this off season and next) but it will show up. The young ones will really change over the next couple of years. You have 3 former QB's putting together the offense (McGee, Brohm, Helton) for each game, which should make it real good. I also believe Chandler is working to change the attitude of the players. Mental toughness with no quit. The ones who cannot handle it will not make it. He comes from OU and they are tough and winners. Spring will be fun to watch even though I am sure it will be a little ragged as they will all be learning a new system on both sides of the ball. Great anticipation yet we must also have patience! Give them time to "get it". Winner are not born they are made!

Everything I hear tells me that the pieces are in place to change the culture of UAB football. I have to reserve judgement until we see what happens on the field but I can't think of a time when I had higher hopes.

I think we hired the right man, and that he will bust his hump to succeed and bring UAB football right along with him.
