RE: ESPNU - Is Cincinnati a Tournament Team?
The good thing here is today is not selection day. We have five chances to seal our own fate. If we win those games or four of those games, we don't have anything to worry about. We can play our way off the bubble. If this team simply does what it should be able to do (win 3-4 of its last five, getting either the UofL or Marquette wins and then wins a game or two in the tourney) and the nonconf losses will be irrelevant.

Yep. UC is exactly where they should be. That is not a bad thing. To a large extent, they still control their own destiny.

Don't care what the computer numbers are, if UC is not good enough to win 3 of these last 5, they are not good enough to deserve a bid anyways.

I look at Seton Hall as an elimination game. Harkens back a little to 2006.

I cannot agree that UC is where they should be, but I do agree they are in position where they could play themselves right in. Losing to Presbyterian and losing at home to St Johns to me set UC back more than they should have been set back.

The losses to Marshall and Rutgers sucked, but to me were more excusable.

I don't think UC has any elimination games at this point, BUT if they lose to Seton Hall they may very well need to sweep Marquette/Louisville at home to get in (or make a deep Big East tournament run). Seton Hall is an enormous game.

2/3 in the Seton Hall/Louisville/Marquette stretch is necessary, so I wouldn't say this is an elimination game but its certainly the most winnable of the 3.

That said our non-conference SOS and our 3 BAD losses really hurt us. I think we are better than many of the borderline tournament teams, but I don't blame anyone who does not have us in at this point. It is our fault not theirs. Here is hoping we finish strong enough so as not to give them the choice. I believe if we are really on the bubble it is likely we will be on the wrong side of it. Committee consistently has sent a message to teams with low non-conference SOS's. Ours is abysmal.

Agreed. Really need to finish strong and then avoid an upset in the conference tournament. I don't want to see UC get VT'd.

We played bad at Rutgers, but I have a hard time calling that a "bad loss" even though they are outside the top 100. If we make the tournament they will have beaten four tournament teams on their home court. There are teams safely in the field that don't have home wins like that.

Really must beat Seton Hall.

Then one of the two home games UofL/MU, and one of the two road games Nova/USF. That's 11-7 and 21-10. That will be good enough.

SH is a must win game unless UC runs the table (NOT HAPPENIN'). Just like 2006, I'm betting the loser is on the outside looking in.
