Schools where I live...
This is an article about the schools where I live. They give every child an Apple laptop from age 8 and up I think(it might be 9). Pay attention to the part of the article where they eliminated 65 jobs including 37 teachers raising the class size from 18 to 30. It seems like I'm the only one with a problem with this. And tonight they're voting to raise our taxes by 37%(of the portion of my property taxes that goes to the school system).

"Start with math lessons: each student’s MacBook Air is leased from Apple for $215 a year, including warranty, for a total of $1 million; an additional $100,000 a year goes for software. Terry Haas, the district’s chief financial officer, said the money was freed up through “incredibly tough decisions.”

Sixty-five jobs were eliminated, including 37 teachers, which resulted in larger class sizes — in middle schools, it is 30 instead of 18 — but district officials say they can be more efficiently managed because of the technology. "

EDIT...to clarify my problem isn't with the laptops its with children so young having them at the expense of class size.

Not sure why you are so diturbed by this. Cutting teachers is the Republican strategy to eliminate the union so you should be supportive.

Hard to believe they couldn't negotiate a better deal with the software. Where I work, if I somehow managed to NOT have MS Office on my home computer, we have a deal where I can download Office 2010 for a one time charege of $9.99 and the license lasts for as long as my employment.
