How does Akron being bad at football influence the rest of the conference's playoff chances? Oh wait, there is no playoff in football and the bowl system is mostly based off of money and not merit.
MAC west fans are so quick to defend their piss poor basketball programs... especially one's with programs that were point shaving.
I'm more of a football fan, always have been. So I'll give you an OT hoops win against the Broncos, as long as we keep doling out these to the Zips.
RE: The Miserable MAC-West and Why it's Killing the Conference
Arrogance at its best, and from a MAC basketball fan at that. Priceless. You wanna know what's killing Akron......the 6 non-conference losses, some against teams that are not really that good.

Wow, three posts in and you are already telling half the board members their team is piss-poor (or worse). Nice way to introduce yourself.
I never said their team's were "piss poor"...i said their programs...which most of them do not fund very well and have lost some quality because of it. And i've been around here for a while, I just don't post often.
As far as "half" of the board members...I highly doubt half of the people on here support the MAC West. If that was the case and the MAC west had so many fans, they would actually have fans at some of their games. I'm not saying the MAC east is high and mighty, i'm just pointing out that the MAC west has nowhere near the fan support in men's basketball...it's not even close.
So your associating people on this board as mostly basketball fans?
Do you notice how many threads are about things other than basketball on here? Heck the MWC/CUSA football merger has more threads than MAC basketball.

I will concede that Akron outdraws UT by 124 per game. Of course that's the combined men and women's home attendance for Akron against just the women's attendance figures for UT. UT's women outdraw Akron's men by about 450 per game.

Here's some advice...when your football team has won two games in two years it's best to hold back criticism of other schools, regardless of the sport under discussion.
Seriously, you're making an ass of yourself.

Come on Dave. He's done more than that.
At the same time he's also whipping out the whole dead-horse point shaving issue to show us how classy he is. (Especially so given the fact that it has absolutely nothing to do with the topic.) Just someone else to ignore.

I was talking to the supposed writer. If you're going to write, write right.
Thank you. And by the way, English majors don't major in English so they can write correctly. They major in English so they can teach others to write correctly. And, yes, it's important. When I recommend people for hire, one of the three most important elements of their interview is their writing skills.
Stepping off my soapbox now- please return to bashing Akron.

RE: The Miserable MAC-West and Why it's Killing the Conference
Why complain? The MAC West may be the lesser in basketball but at least I appreciate them in football season. Besides they will get better just like I think several east programs will continue to get better.

Well he went for edgy but could not stick the landing and ended up being an @$$.
Look I'm not happy that UB beats NIU and sees their RPI fall but at the same time even *if* UB was dominant in football and basketball what about baseball? what about womens hoops, soccer?
Were a conference damn it!
And while its ok to hate a certain school as your rival (Directional, Kent/Akron, BG/Toledo) its not ok to crap all over a division, period.
There's a poll at the bottom where you can represent your respective MAC West team's as well :-)
That so many weaker teams are neatly organized into the West Division actually helps the RPI of the East teams since their SOS is better due to only playing each West school once. They get to "pad" their RPI by playing East division opponents twice. Had there been one dominant team in the West Division, their at large chances would have been hurt from playing in a weak division.

Yes and no. Their RPI would've suffered, but not necessarily their at-large chances, assuming they have some quality wins OOC.
That's the thing that this "blogger" missed: it's not the MAC West's fault that Akron has a very tiny at-large profile...it's the 6 OOC losses, 5 of which were to fellow mid majors. The Mississippi State win is the only top 50 win, but I think that's off-set by losses to Duquesne, Valpo, and VCU (all 3 have an RPI below 80). Win those games and its a different story.
Every mid major conference, save for the high-mids like the A10 and MWC, typically has about 4 really crappy teams every year. Look at the CAA, where George Mason, VCU, and Old Dominion have recently been at-large picks: they have some perennially awful teams like Towson, as well as a couple different programs that struggle every year and hurt the big boys' RPI when they play. The difference is those big boys (unlike Akron) took care of business against other mid majors in their OOC schedule. That's where at-large profiles are built.

Your first post in this thread was borderline. This one is over the line. You started the thread to flame/smack. You get a pass this time. Smack talk goes here.
RE: The Miserable MAC-West and Why it's Killing the Conference
Well sorry guys for upsetting everyone, but i think you guys had a good time bashing the Zips. Point is I thought that blog post was interesting and that you all would enjoy it.
That being said, the final word will be the MAC Tournament next month.
Go Zips...hope the MAC west doesn't embarrass itself.
