Stinks. I don't care if it's 2 for 1 or 3 for 1.............I wouldn't play them unless they agree to come to PBS..at least once. We're not a MAC team.

This is still part of the original deal which I believe was a 2-for-2, but they bought out the 2nd game since they were scared and want another home game, making it a 3-for-1. They likely will never set foot in PBS again since their perfect season was almost ruined last time and they can't afford to lose to UC. If we keep making steps in the right direction, I would not be surprised if they buy out other games for fear of losing to us.

I'd rather go there and play than not play them at all. If we beat them, it could really do a world of good for the program, especially recruiting wise (Which is what they are afraid of).

Ohio State didn't request the 2012 game to be moved. Cincinnati approached OSU to move the game because they needed to make room for TCU at the time.

True. Although the timing is a little fuzzy. It almost sounded like we approached OSU about moving the game when we thought we needed to make room for TCU, but then OSU decided to actually move the game and schedule UCF after TCU was already headed to the Big 12.

Yea.. and UC was scheduled to go to Columbus next year until TCU came in the picture and the Bearcats needed to make room on their schedule.

I actually believe the game was originally scheduled to be played in Cincinnati and Ohio State bought out the game to move it to Columbus. Then, as you said, UC needed to make room on the schedule because of TCU.

Why Won't they play at PBS? I don't remember what the crowd was like when they did but I would think it would almost be a home game for them given the number of OSU fans around here.

While there were a ton of O$U fans, it did seem like the Bearcat fans were as loud if not louder so I would guess it was close to a 50/50 split back then. Now it would likely be 75-25 UC fans since there are more that would want to make this game. Add in that UC arguably should have won that game and O$U would rather just stay away.

There is a reason they play zero or only 1 road non-conference game per year and if they leave it is for one of the other super-elite programs. I think the average ticket at O$U is between $60 and $75, so do the math and they probably make $6-$8 million dollars in ticket revenue alone per game. That is more than UC brings in all season. Would you ever leave home?

I'm not entirely sure this is completely correct, but this is what I've gathered over the years from what I read and a little of my own reasoning.

The original contract had a couple of games spread apart by years and a very small buy-out (if this is wrong, then the whole post is wrong, but I think it's right). OSU decided to buyout the last game supposed to be in Cincinnati. This was probably motivated because of UC rising (OSU tries to avoid instate rivalries to avoid dividing the potential fanbase), but probably was actually more a result of the increasing value of home games. With several million being made for each home game, a small buyout isn't a big deal.

UC didn't want to cancel it entirely and OSU was open to keeping it as a home game that year, so the new contract was for a million which basically was both OSU's small buyout of the old contract and it's payment to UC for a one and done.

Then TCU was announced to the Big East and OSU was the simplest game to move so UC asked to move it back. By the time it was announced though, TCU had already announced it was going to the Big 12. I don't know if OSU was too far in the negotiations with Central Florida to back out or if OSU just used that as an excuse (since next year is going to be a transition year and we're more likely to lose). Both are possible or the answer could be in the middle.

This is about what I figured as well.

I have a hard time believing the line of reasoning that after Jim Tressel left, OSU's AD looked at the calendar and said, "well, we have to cancel that UC game now." I think when UC gave them an opportunity to get out of it due to the TCU conflict, OSU took a look at their coaching situation and said "you know what, this actually works well for us too." Then they conveniently forgot that TCU went to the B-12 and went ahead with scheduling UCF.
