RE: 2013 Football Recruiting
I posted this in the other recruiting thread but it probably belongs more here. C&P below:

I'm not really plugged into the recruiting scene, but I read this story on SI today (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/wr...xid=cnnbin) about David Robinson's son turning into a legitimate wr prospect. In relevant part, it reads "The Little Admiral impressed Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Rice." Now it seems like the big boys will be sniffing around, but from the story it looks like the kid's worth a look. Would be nice to push the local angle and have his dad around for some of the games....I'm sure that would also pay off in other ways. David Robinson himself is a very intelligent, well rounded person, and looks like his son is growing in his dad's footsteps (although different sport). Maybe someone more knowledgeable can provide some insight.

RE: 2013 Football Recruiting
I'm at a pub...nope not willy's...lol. Here is a link to sone clips of Corey Robinson.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/182695/corey-robinson

I'm on my iPhone I can't view the vids. UT boards are talking he is great TE prospect, I say leave him at wr and if his speed isn't great make him a great possession wr and red zone wr. People will have to double him in the red zone cause of his height and leaping ability. Can you say JD #2! I played against david Terrell that had stats about like him. He was easy to cover cause of the lack of speed(don't know how fast Corey is) but he was hell in the red zone cause of his size(side note david t is my cousin though marriage. Didn't know that until after we ha played. His dad is married to my cousin). I would be all over this kid as well.

Yeah I know I have too much time in my hands. Lol. Love rice football. Go crazy when it's not going on.

We ought to be recruiting the kids on the offensive line that are blocking for Childs; he doesn't get touched until he is 15 yards, downfield.

RE: 2013 Football Recruiting
in vype magazine childs was the #41 rated overall prospect in the greater houston area. "has a few offers, treads on wheels"...word is that an upper level team is on the verge of offering...nothing is confirmed yet...he is in the region 2 track meet this weekend if you would like to go check him out. he won the 200 and he is a member of the 4X200..they had him clocked at a 3.2 at the 30yd mark of the open 200, if you divide that by three, then mulitply by 4 that comes out to a 4.26 40yd dash..now i know that some kids start slower than others and/or start faster than others, but anyway it goes...THAT'S BLAZING...especially at 5'10" and 185lbs even if he puts on 10-15lbs and slows a touch he still in the 4.3-4.4 range..lol..special talent people...

If it's anything like the 100M, people get slower towards the end.

Not as slow as they go at the start. When Usain Bolt set the 100m world record at 9.58s, he ran a 60m split of 6.31s. The official world record for the 60m is 6.39s, a considerably slower pace than the 100m.

ETA: Until Bolt set that record in 2009, the WR 200m was a faster pace than the 100m. Now it's slightly slower (19.19s, also Bolt). It's all about having to start from 0 fps.

RE: 2013 Football Recruiting
the forty really is all about your start. there is a very very small amount of people that can run a good forty time if they don't get a great start. the forty literally is all drive phase, so if you are running correctly you just barely get to the stride lengthening stage as you hit the end of the forty. correctly run forties the runner is truly still accelerating as they are going thru the finish line.

i mean literally the runner shouldn't be standing in an upright position until maybe 5-yds are so from the finish line. i now it seems crazy but it is a true fact...

So given what you said, I am curious. With the exception of maybe a kick off return, I've never seen someone run like that during a game. So if we wanted a way to gauge an athlete's game speed, what metric should we utilize? 100 meter dash?

RE: 2013 Football Recruiting
nope...40 is more of a gauge of explosiveness. the more explosive you are the better start you get, ergo better 40 time.

people that have those long strides normally don't run great 40 times, but in a game they never get caught and are able to run by folks. typically you see wr that have this type of running style as they know where they are going and dont have to worry as much about changing direction based off of what they see(typically).

when i look for a gauge of game speed, the 40 intitially gets my intrest because it tells me that kid is explosive out the gate and will typically have a really high stride frequency. next i look to pro agility. this tells me that the kid and stop, change direction and start again very quickly. if these two numbers are good i then want to see film. film is the only way you can truly gauge game speed. there are many guys that have great 40s but in a game they can move their pads that well, essentially they are track guys playing football. conversely they are guys that have very avg 40 times but they just always seem to get open or run by people and never ever get caught. they essentially play much faster than their 40 would dictate.

anyone that has tried to evaluate talent will tell you that test just spark your intrest, the film is where its at. there isn't any one test that can tell you that said kid has great game speed. now with all that said you do see a similar trend by MOST athletes when looking at the numbers..40 = 4.4 or faster, pro agility = 4.2 or better, vertical = 36"+...when you see guys with these type of numbers typically they are going to have above avg playing speed. if you adjust one of those test say the 40 goes down to 4.5 but your vertical goes up to 40+" that kid will still typically be faster than most, a la jarrett dillard.

evaluating talent is a very tricky situation. becaue not only do you look a the raw numbers you have to look at the film. finally the last piece of the puzzle is how smart is the kid. what i mean by that is you have some kids that play really fast because they KNOW their responsibility, read blocking schemes, and know their game plan in and out. this allows them to play really fast because there is very little hesitation by that player. they always seem a step ahead and are always on time. then you have kids that are physically gifted. they hesitate cause they really don't know their responsibility, they don't truly trust their reads(or they just don't read them), and they really don't know what the other team is going to do cause they don't read the game plan. these kids will still make a lot of plays because they are so physically gifted that they wait until the last second to go and the close like frieght trains, or they move really slow but when they get the ball its a whole new gear when they see the hole. things like that. you have to decide if this kid is playing in a new system will the "smart" kid fit with his physical tools or will the not as "smart" kid fit with his physical tools. its a really tricky game...

personally i have a little of each on my team sprinkled around. i want the kid that is so physically gifted that he will do things no one can coach but he will frustrate you cause he is so undisciplined and never truly achieves his potential. as well as having those kids that may not make some of the super spectacular plays, but his like a mule. comes to work knows his job and is darn good at it, better than most but maybe not the overall best. having this mixture allows you to have plenty of guys that you can rely on to make the consistent routine plays, but you have a few guys that will simply out athlete some people and there is no answer for them...

sorry to took so long to get to my point..i started typing and couldn't stop...lol

Yes, he's had an offer for a little while now. Per David Mooney at Rivals, he is favoring Rice for now, but it's still very early.

RE: 2013 Football Recruiting
yes he does have an offer from rice...we were the first to offer...some "bigger" schools are sniffing around now..intrest is going to pick up on the kid. we are in the best position we could be in. we offered first and hopefully they are letting him know that HE is our guy. we aren't waiting to see how well he does we know his talent level and we respected that by offering ASAP. he is a kid and sometimes those "bigger" names can impress simply because it sounds good to say "i committed to [insert sec, big XII, big 10 school here]."

i firmly believe we have a very good chance to land him. it may not be when we want it, nor should it be, but i think he will seriously weigh the fact that we wanted before anyone else did. we did see if we could get some other kid first then fall back to him. ball is in his hands, no pun intended...lol

San Antonio Alamo Heights Linebacker Nick Uretsky committed to the Owls today.

Rivals profile shows a good student, no other offers listed.
