The manager of a downtown bar says Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga was involved in a bar fight over the weekend where he injured the manager.

Luxe manager Sammy Laham after the alleged incident

According to the manager, Maualuga was at Luxe, a bar located at the corner of 6th St. and Main St. in downtown Cincinnati, where he allegedly punched the manager, causing him to be injured.

The incident happened near closing time at the bar early Sunday morning. Luxe manager Sammy Laham described the scene to FOX19. "One of them said something at which point I repeated myself, that they had to leave, and then Rey Maualuga got up, took three or four steps and punched me in the face, more noticeably the eye, then my nose started to bleed. Then security diffused the situation."

Laham said nothing provoked the situation.

Brittany Knight was a witness to the incident, and said, "Our security went over to see what was going on, to break them up, and Sammy went over as well, and Rey was leaning up against the bar and he stepped forward and swung. At first I didn't see who it was because I was standing a little further back until I saw my manager walk by and I saw his eye and it was bleeding and cut up. He said, 'I can't believe I just got hit' and I was shocked with my mouth to the ground."

Cincinnati Police are still investigating the incident, and Ray Maualuga has not been charged.

FOX19 spoke to Maualuga's agent, Gary Uberstine, who called Maualuga, and then called FOX19 back saying that he can't really comment on the matter at this point.

Any guy with a shirt half unbuttoned and wearing three goofly necklaces deserves to get beat up.

Seriously, why don't the "celebrities" just walk away from stuff?

Maybe Rey was jealous of all that bling.

Why don't these guys go home during the off season? I would think they would want to get away from the fans.

Rey's a weird dude - nice enough guy but strange. Been around him only 4-5 times but can tell you that. One of those people that just should not drink. No idea about anything to do with this incident though.

I've heard some pretty bad stuff about Rey recently. If I remember correctly, after his DUI he said he was going to get sober. Well that is certainly not the case anymore. One night he was so wasted he couldn't even find his apartment. Not a good look.

to his credit, he probably forgot which apartment and in what city he was in. also to his credit, dude apparently likes cincinnati. maybe a bit too much. maybe he saw the latest crosstown shootout and thought that's how we did things round these parts. did you guys hear about that game?

also, Q, that guy totally deserved a couple of punches. is he a new jersey transplant?

When Rey first got drafted it wasn't unusual to see him hanging around Holy Grail in Clifton. Obviously doesn't put himself in good situations.

Why do the Bengals put up with this guy? He's not even any good. His rookie season he showed some promise, but he has regressed. Combine that with the continued bad publicity and I'd send him packing.

Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga accused of assault in bar

[Image: bilde?Site=AB&Date=20120210&...ssault-bar]
The Enquirer/Jeff Swinger
A bar employee said that Rey Maualuga punched him in the early morning hours Sunday.

Cincinnati Bengal Rey Maualuga was charged Friday with assault after a Downtown bar employee said the player punched him in the early morning hours Sunday.

Cincinnati police charged Maualuga with assault – a misdemeanor that carries a maximum jail term of 180 days –after Luxe bar employee Sammy Laham told police the 6-foot-3, 250-pound Maualuga punched him in the face, injuring him.

The incident is alleged to have occurred at 3:10 a.m. Sunday at the bar at Sixth and Main streets.

Maualuga, 25, of Downtown, is due in court Feb. 17 on the charge.

It’s not the first time Maualuga has been in trouble.

He was charged in a Jan. 29, 2010, incident with driving under the influence in Covington. He drove drunk and his car hit a parking meter and two cars with two girls, one age 17, in the car. His blood-alcohol level was 0.157, almost twice Kentucky’s 0.08 legal limit for driving.

Maualuga initially was suspended for one game after a conviction in that case, but appealed and the suspension was rescinded. He was fined $75,911.76 – two game checks and a portion of his signing bonus.

In the Covington incident, Maualuga was sentenced to seven days in jail and ordered to have no more criminal offenses for two years. That was made Feb. 3, 2010 – two years and two days before the current allegations.

He also attended a treatment program after that incident and entered the NFL’s Substance Abuse program.

Maualuga is in his fourth year with the Bengals.

Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said the team doesn’t comment on unresolved legal matters.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league “will review (the allegations) under our policies” but wouldn’t be more specific.

The bling boy was on WLW yesterday-newsbreak-Mo has him on. That in in itself was comical.

T'wife says the guy was on all of the local news stations too. Seems like a real jack*.

Rey needs to quit the sauce before he gets in some really serious trouble.
