places to try at Kent State
Hi, I am a College of Charleston fan coming up for the game next week. I always like to try the local places as had a good time in Toledo last year at Tony Packos and Frickers. Appreciate any suggestions as hope it will be a good game as MAC teams are tough to beat at home.

Ray's Place is a must. Tons of draft beer, full bar of course and nice menu highlighted by burgers and good soups. It is as historic a place you will find in Kent. Otherwise there are plenty of bars like BW3, Mugs and so on. I suggest Ray's Place on gameday for lunch/beers and sports on tv.

Mike's Place, corner of SR 261 & 43 was featured on ESPN during our football game against CMU this past fall. If your're a Star Wars fan or just a fan of typical college culture, you would love it here. Open for breakfast.

And yes, Ray's has among the best burgers in the world. Drew Carey, KSU Alum, flew in to watch our game there in the Elite 8 in 2002.

Taco Tontos, which is basically next door to Ray's. Best burritos around. I recommend an El Biggo Burrito.

Rockne's on East Main Street was always one of my favorite places to eat. Good food, huge portions, good prices and quick service.

Love the french fries. Try the Terminator Sub.

How would we go about to get this as a stickied thread so all visitors can view it anytime?

Here are a few more suggestions, each for a different reason:
-Franklin Square Deli = great sandwiches, but you wont be able to have a beer
-Water Street Tavern= has become Kent State athletics unofficial bar and has a restaurant in it (Cajun Dave's)
-Guys Pizza = pizza by the slice
-The Loft = cheap drinks, true vintage/college bar

If you need to order a pizza, I highly suggest Gionino's. Its actually in Brimfield, but delivers to Kent. I get a Gionino's every time I go to Ohio.

RE: places to try at Kent State
If I were spending a day in Kent (and had the appetite and funds to eat out all day) I would do:
- Mike's Place for breakfast (good anytime though for a huge, delicious, greasy, bad for you meal)
- Franklin Square Deli for lunch, grab a sandwich and some soup
- Ray's Place for dinner, a beer, and to watch some basketball on TV. You can't visit Kent without a stop here. The Mo-Fo burger was featured on an episode of Food Network's The Best Thing I Ever Ate.
If you're going out at night, my favorite bars were always Water Street Tavern and the Loft. Grab some Taco Tanto's or Guy's Pizza for a late night snack.
They've been doing a lot of renovating downtown so you will be able to find plenty of good places. Check out Acorn Alley (stop at the Arctic Squirrel if it's not too cold for an awesome ice cream cone), explore our campus, enjoy the town! I hope you have fun!

Definetely hit Ray's Place....classic college bar....it's got the moosehead over the bar and about 20 beers on tap (gotta have the Arrogant Bastard Ale...yum). I was just there last Saturday afternoon before the basketball game, and it was hopping (there's an upstairs, too, but it's newer and doesn't have the classic feel that the downstairs has).
For late night munchies, the gyro man sets up shop about a 1/2 block from Ray's Place.
While most KSU grads are burned-out listening about it by the time they graduate, an out-of-towner should go see see some of the May 4 stuff.
