I would think there would be an OC from a good FCS team that has significant experience and has shown he can be successful.

They just have to be comfortable with our current system as I am sure Doeren will not want to start over.

Rod Carey is an exceptional coach and it is obvious he can recruit - DD has to consider promoting him to the OC job and hire a RB coach.

I'm guessing you meant promote Carey and hire an OL coach. We don't want a coach that's both OC and OL coach, as in the days of HWSNBN.

More like LSU and Greg Studrawa.

if Hammock did not play for NIU, would his name be bantered about as a possible OC? I truly doubt it.

LSU's a different animal in a lot of ways. Besides, Strudawa took over in the summer when the previous OC was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Miles may have thought he didn't want to bring in a new OC that close to the beginning of the season.

Interesting in the case of NIU that none other than Tracy Claeys thought Limegrover should be on the sidelines. Tracy told us at an HASF event that the Huskies would be a better football team if Limegrover were on the field coaching up the O-Linemen.

Hmmm. He was a darn good player. Has been a darn good coach, and has proven he can recruit. He has midwest ties (recruited Harnish among others (Spahn?). He had OC coordinator experience and Big 10 experience, and BIG 10 OC experience. He comes from a winning program (Top 10 type program).

You're right. What makes him qualified?

Yup, he did. Though he didn't say that meaning that Limegrover shouldn't be OC, just that he was wearing too many hats on gameday.

As far as the new OC, just find the best guy available, regardless of level, regardless of connections.

RE: New OC
With the connections thing- that's one area where I'll give Doeren a lot of credit. He's hired his share of "his" guys, but he's also pretty fearless about going for guys he doesn't have apparent connection to (Canada, all this year's hires come to mind).

Coaching has always looked like nepotism/cronyism central to me, but DD seems good at going beyond that.

did I say he was not qualified, just said had he not played for us his name probably would not be on the radar. Coach D knows who will fit

Curious to see who the candidates will be (if we find that out), and how long it will take to find someone. At least we have some time to do a good search.

Hammock was 2-3 at Minnesota while calling plays(after Brewster was fired). They had started 1-6 that year.

why should anyone know who is being contacted. It might jeoperdize a coaches standing with the team he is presently with. This search, like all others is between Coach D and the candidate.

Does AD Compher have any say or veto in the hire?

If not then I think Doeren will keep this info as much to himself until he is down to 2 people if not THE person.

In everyones own job on this board, would you want your boss to know you are talking to another firm

or good ole Joe Novak from NIU?

just let it go, you have made your point countless times already. you don't need to bring it up in every single one of your posts.

Did Novak do anything to you personally? otherwise there is no reason for you to defame any person so much
He's a troll plain and simple. I'd ban him, but then people would be pissed and say we are banning people who don't like Novak.

To be fair.. he's legitimately just a troll. He's not adding to the conversation, he just's a bitter *******. There were some legitimate gripes against Novak if he really wanted to add to the message board., (in my opinion, off the cuff, his reluctance to go to a nickel or dime defense against Toledo and BGSU's spread for example).

Look everybody...you're all just feeding the troll when you respond to WIS11's...ahem...posts. Resist the urge to respond. Ignore the posts. it's the best thing to do.

I would expect things to be kept pretty quiet until Coach Doeren makes a hire.

Yeah, the party hats and Soviet Military parade approach kind of blew up in our face last time.

Maybe he should wait a couple days or a week after hiring somebody, before making the announcement. Or put some caveats and provisos in the announcement.
