RE: Football map
Anyone who thinks 90% of New England is BC and 10% is UConn has never stepped one foot in New England.

SMU should be smaller than TCU (as of now), but it should be a lot bigger than that microscopic dot on the map.

RE: Football map
It's not microscopic, bigger than the out of states in DFW (which, let's face it, isn't true) and several of the public schools which are much bigger than SMU but have small fan bases. SMU has a small alumni base and a negligible t-shirt following right now so the size is appropriate.

I would contend that SMU should be slightly bigger, but I've lived here 26 years and I'd have to say that's a pretty good job. I might also make the OU and Arkansas circles just a little bigger.

10th mountain - when I said "microscopic", I was referring to the original USA map. I think your Texas map is very accurate.

I like this concept of a "T-shirt following."

One school I see fairly frequently on T-shirts these days is Boise. At least in these parts, anyways. I also see more Montana T-shirts than half of D-1A.

I think Tech should have a presence in DFW. That is where a good portion of students come from and where a good portion of our Alumni live. Otherwise, I think it's pretty dang close.

I know they do, but I just didn't bother putting A&M, Tech and the sips individually into the big cities even though we all have big presences there. There are actually a ton of Aggies in both San Antonio for military bases and Austin who work for the state government but to keep the map clear I didn't bother.

And Vermont has no teams at all. There isn't a single full scholarship football program left in either state. Maine at least has one, so you could say they win by default even though they're not very popular. In New Hampshire, I think the southeast corner is essentially an extension of the north shore suburbs and somewhat BC-infested. Same might go for Providence. Don't know how you color the rest of those states. And there isn't any BC interest at the western borders of Massachusetts. BC fans don't even consider that the same state.

I had cousins in Lenox/Pittsfield (Western Mass). To them, BC was as relevant as Stanford.

RE: Football map
T-shirt followings are big. In our area, Clemson among the young kids and teenagers (especially in our area) has a huge following. It's like with basketball. Duke and North Carolina have very big followings here for basketball. Most of these fans go away for football.

They root for another team, usually Clemson or South Carolina. It's like that on much of the East Coast.

Georgia is very much a UGA state, maybe even more than what the map shows. Outside of metro Atlanta, it is probably a conservative 70% Bulldog following, except in Columbus on the AL state line where there's a lot of Alabama and Auburn fans (Auburn only 40 miles from downtown Columbus), Augusta (where there's a good amount of Gamecock and Tiger fans) and the few towns below Chattanooga (Vol fans).

Georgia Southern probably is the #2 team anywhere south of I-16 and on the GA side of the Savannah area. Their games have always aired on Savannah radio.

I like That, also seen one of North Carolina...

with USA map you get a feel then with the state maps you see the big picture..

Hope some others get their states done something like this...

RE: Football map
For Ohio, OSU covers most of the state. However, Michigan and Marshall have fanbases in the state. On the other hand, about half of UC's region is outside the state.

Naturally, every school has a statewide following. But several of the MAC schools don't have any region in which they are dominant. I probably overestimate the dominance Akron, Toledo, Ohio, and Marshall within their regions.

Miami doesn't dominate anywhere its own region. However, it does have significant followings in the richest suburbs of the big cities, so I accounted for this by putting a maroon circle around the richest suburbs of Cincy, Columbus (Dublin, etc), and Cleveland (Hudson-Mentor region). Miami also has a similar fanbase in the rich suburbs of Indianapolis (Carmel, Fishers) and probably other major cities in the region.

For real? That sucks, I'm moving there this summer. That'll be a real pain in the ass if true.

RE: Football map
In Georgia, you could probably do GT like the Ohio guy did for Miami, OH. The vast majority of GT's fan base is in the metro Atlanta area, but they have a fringe following in the wealthy suburbs of other Georgia cities and in the B'ham suburbs as well. As for Auburn, I'd say their fan base in Georgia starts near the Georgia side of Eufaula, AL (just below Columbus) and goes straight into Atlanta, where it stops. If there is an Alabama fan base in Georgia, it probably consists of Columbus, maybe part of Atlanta, and that's it. Georgia Southern has the area around Savannah. Tennessee claims some of north Georgia as does Clemson, and Augusta is probably split between SC and Clemson. I think FSU has the southwestern portion of the state (closest to the Florida line), and UGa has everything else which is probably 75 %. Georgia State also has a sizable following in Atlanta.

In Alabama, the state is fairly split between Alabama and Auburn (much how the ECU fan showed UNC & NCSU), but Troy has a strong following in the southeastern portion of the state which it splits with Florida State and UGa (give Troy, FSU, & UGA each a dot). Tennessee, as in the state of Georgia, has a sizable fan base in the extreme northern portion of the state-around Huntsville, while LSU can probably lay claim to the southwestern portion of the state, basically the Mobile Bay. UAB's fan base seems limited to the B'ham metro area.

I like the idea, but there is something wrong with the way he did his sampling. I only say that because, for the most part, anywhere you click in Texas has, reportedly, more A&M fans than Texas fans and that's just not remotely true.

I'd say we have more true, die hard fans than UT does but obviously we haven't had anywhere near their current number of bandwagon/t-shirt fans since the mid 90's when we crashed and they went on their current run.

You can't really split up California by geography. Local USC and UCLA fans live in pretty much the exact same areas. Same with Stanford and Cal. It's not like you cross the Dumbarton Bridge and all of a sudden you're in Stanford territory or something.
