You would feel differently if you had ever seen Reno and UNR's stadium and checked their football attendance. All are awful.

Still, the comment above yours about Fresno is accurate insofar as Bulldogs football having slipped. And LOI signing day sure didn't do anything to help that.

RE: Big East adjust for current Rumors
I think it'll be
1. UConn
2. Rutgers
3. Cincy
4. Louisville
5. USF
6. UCF
7. Houston
8. SMU
9. Boise St
10. San Diego St
11. Navy
12. Memphis

If we go to 14-
13. Temple
14. Air Force

The thing now- if Air Force agrees to come in 2013, we can let Pitt and Syracuse go- have 12 team championship in 2013 and then go to 14 in 2015 when Navy arrives. If Air Force doesn't agree to come, get another western school for 2013.

On the Recruiting Front, Given the time we did alright- Considering that Fresno St had 0 commitments until a few weeks ago..

Also I think with Air Force, being added- Fresno is the likely next school FB School to be added..

Wyoming- No.
CSU- Possible, but very premature.
UNM- Not anytime Soon..
FS- Very Possible..
HI- Too Far
NV- No.
UNLV- Unless they renege on vowing to split up their sports, then no.

UNLV football is finally on the upswing and BB is amazing. UNM has a new coach and had a decent batch of recruits this year. BB is great, football is a few years away.
no one in the west ever heard of Memphis or really cares.

But they can be the Fresno of 5 years ago and potentially much bigger than 5 years ago.

Fresno State is a win/win. A city/town that supports their team and is sports crazy.

In what way is UNLV football on an upswing?

This is just my personal opinion...

While UNLV is still not very good, they are clearly making progress.

I see the UNLV program as much like the Aztec program 5/6 years ago. They have hired a coach, told him to build the program properly, with High School recruits and have told him they will give him time to do it.

Build from the bottom up and the program will flourish. Much like Chuck Long did at San Diego State before he was let go.

Of course Brady Hoke came in and did a great job of changing the attitude of players and brought it to another level.

UNLV has hired Hauck, is committed to giving him the time to get it done, while at the same time building the program correctly as San Diego State did.

The only difference is that UNLV will actually give Hauck the time to do it, where San Diego State blew out Chuck Long when his players were ready to contribute.

I see UNLV as a program that is a couple of years away from being very competitive.

WVU played UNLV in Morgantown last year and beat them 49-10. I'd hate to see what Holgorsen's offense would do to 'em...

And nobody in the current BE has heard of or cares about UNLV, Fresno St. or New Mexico. That is the down side of a national conference. I think we're going to have a hard time agreeing on a 12th team everyone wants to play, let alone 14 or 16 teams that everyone wants. I don't see any way this gets above 12.

A conference that would satisfy the most schools/fans:

EAST

UConn
Rutgers
Navy
Cincinnati
Louisville
Memphis/Temple/Army
USF
UCF

WEST

Houston
SMU
Boise
BYU
Air Force
SDSU
UNLV
UNM

That's about as good as it gets. A true eastern division and a true western division. Need to split from the BB schools. And this will take a long time to develop; I don't expect BYU until 2016 or 2017.

The only way we add Memphis over Temple is that Louisville agrees to stay. If Louisville can't commit long-term, I'd say Temple takes the place of Memphis. And I would actually give that spot to Army if they would take it; I'm not optimistic about that.

Uh, no. 05-nono Hell no!

For the life of me I don't get the fixation on Memphis & UNLV. 03-banghead This is not a BB thread - it's a FB thread. Add those two teams in FB (with UNLV a FB only???), and watch how many teams start looking for the exit. Especially if you throw in NM as well. Ugh.

We already left one conference for another that proved watered down to the point it was comparable to what we left (WAC/MWC). Not again. UNLV & Memphis suck, and they should never, never, NEVER be considered for expansion. Maybe in a decade or so if they can show consistency. We already have a few teams who will be under watchful eyes to prove they were the right choices. We need to build strength, and give our TV negotiations a chance.

Who the hell cares about Memphis/UNLV FB? What kind of draw would they be? No. Nada. Hell no!

Add So. Miss instead of Memphis and rearrange the divisions - don't care about the market - they play good football, and will be a draw. People want to see entertaining games. Not cream puff blowouts. We have plenty of good markets represented. They deserve a chance. Just ask Houston.

And Fresno State instead of UNLV. Yes, Fresno State. They are a natural dual rival with SDSU & BSU. And if BYU can't be convinced to come in as an equal member, they are the best western choice.

Stop at 14 teams.

Done.

Preach on, brother! Preach on!

Memphis is sliding in basketball now too, post-Calipari. Temple is a must get. They are #1 in a stronger conference and have Duke's scalp ( 04-bow ) hanging on their wall. If we're going to add a team for basketball, they're the only team that makes it worth it.

Fresno would be great. It would be nice to get SDSU a traveling partner.

You don't really need a traveling partner for football only school. But for the sake of divisions it would be nice

AGAIN, western schools don't want there sports split, we need all our Oly. sports in with our football.
We need a few more western schools in our league. BYU and AFA for sure, Fresno would be everyones
next pick.

Welcome to Temple's world.

If the Big East goes beyond 12, it will be to add value for television negotiations. Period. That's how every major conference does business and the Big East is no different. There isn't a lot of value to the prospective football members out west, outside of BYU and AFA. In the East, I'd say Temple.

I understand your geographic concerns. However, also remember that the BCS doesn't exist for Olympic sports. You can still win national championships in other sports without having to be in a Big 6 conference. Thus, there is not a great gain in taking on the excessive travel to send your teams to play St Johns.

Boise State has crossed the great (BCS) divide. Enjoy it! Your other sports will be fine.

I'm on the fence about adding CSU Fresno. On one hand it would be nice to have another school out west and our little brother to kick around but on the other hand it would be nice to be the ONLY BCS alternative to California recruits outside of the PAC in CA.

Air Force or Temple. Or BYU, if Dodds talks Notre Dame into joining the B12, as he said yesterday. 03-lmfao
