RE: Fleck New OC
I loved DD's comment tonight. He said we'll find out the newest addition to the coaching staff tomorrow and "you'll now a lot about him."

He also said Friz would coach the WRs and the new ST coach will also coach the RBs.

RE: Fleck New OC
As for PJ's offensive system, I would imagine he's going to come in and run the same stuff we did last year. The high tempo offense fits his personality, and DD said this re: Charlie Miller

Quote:"We've been on Charlie a long, long time," Doeren said. "In the end, he has seen our offense on television and wants to play in an explosive system. He chose us over Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Wake Forest. We were all screaming, 'It's Miller Time!'"

Given DD's background at KU and Montana I think it's as safe to think he wants to stay spread as anything

My thought with PJ is more that his inexperience with spread systems may add to his growing pains a little bit in the job. But he has Cole to lean on and an existing system to work with. And Canada had been a pro-style guy until he went spread at IU so its not like smart guys can't adapt.

I think we'll start to see more of a Spread/Pro-Set mix with H-backs (Ford & Maxwell) providing the versatility needed to run out of many formations with the same personnel on the field.

Wasn't it Doeren that wanted to go to the hurry up offense. Wanted an offense that was hard to plan against, don't see us having major changes. Maybe more TE involvement this year

I second this motion.

It can turn into something like that weird obsession Milwaukee has with 1982 Brewers.

YES! Call up Sheldon and Azar. Don't think Hurd's available.

Or the 85 Bears. Seems like there's a few guys still scraping together livings in the Chicago area on nothing more than being an 85 Bear.

It's official: P.J. Fleck returns to #NIU as offensive coordinator: shawurl.com/65r

On the other hand, Dog Fan's days of critiquing 7's stroke technique are just starting.

Fleck returns to NIU
Comments (No comments posted) | Add Comments

P.J. Fleck is back at Northern Illinois University.

Fleck's long-rumored return was confirmed today by NIU. He will be the team's offensive coordinator. Mike Uremovich also joined the staff as running backs coach and special teams coordinator.

“I am really excited to be back home and to re-join the Huskie Family,” Fleck said in a news release. “One of the big reasons why I came back was Dave Doeren. He contacted me about the position and it immediately sparked my interest. It gives me a chance to continue to develop myself as a coach. Responsibility equals growth, and he’s given me an enormous amount of responsibility. It’s a great challenge and I can’t wait to get started.”

Doeren said welcoming Fleck back to NIU was an easy decision.

"When I found out [former offensive coordinator] Matt Canada was leaving, the first person who came to mind was P.J.,” Doeren said. “We spoke at length about why this is the right place for him. It was very evident to me that he bleeds NIU, and he would have tremendous pride and passion working not just for me, but for the university to help continue what we started last year, and really what he started here as a player. His recruiting abilities and passing game expertise, working alongside coach [Rod] Carey as our run game coordinator, will be a great combination for our offense. It’s great to have P.J., Tracie and their son Carter back at Northern Illinois, and I know Huskie fans are going to be thrilled.”

As a senior in 2003, Fleck led the Huskies with 77 catches for 1,028 yards and six touchdowns, a reception total that still ranks second on the school’s single-season list. Fleck served as former coach Jerry Kill's recruiting coordinator in 2009 and spent the past two seasons at Rutgers as the wide receivers coach under Greg Schiano.

So it seems that Fleck leaving Rutgers made Schiano want to take the Tampa job! 03-melodramatic

Rod Carey also added the title of run game coordinator.

Good recruiting job by Doeren.

Thanks for posting the link instead of pasting the text HJ. Always good to give traffic to those who give coverage.
