RE: NJ.com: Flood to be next RU Head Coach
Was Cignetti a candidate for the HC position? I'm not sure that Cignetti will stay if he was passed up for Flood. Cristobal would not have stayed at Rutgers. The sticking point with Pitt was not money but the low buyout he was demanding. I suspect Rutgers had the same problem with him. He would jump at the first FL job that came open.

Rutgers was paying Schiano $2.2 Million...yet it is Cristobal that has won a CONF Championship...something Schiano has never done in 11 years as RU Coach.

RU tried to get Cristobal on the cheap...and it cost them their #1 choice.

Now whenever I think of Rutgers, the curious case of Curt Flood is going to always come to mind... 07-coffee3

You usually get what you pay for in quality and value. It does look like Rutgers and the State of New Jersey does have a cashflow crisis. 07-coffee3

Yea on the cheap was $1.5 million compared to the 453K he's making at FIU. If 1.5 million isn't enough for Cristobal to start then we don't need him.

Christobal just didn't want the job. I'm willing to bet even if he was offered $2 million he would have rejected. He's playing games I think.

Going from Schiano HC to Flood HC is a MAJOR COME DOWN for Rutgers.
What the exact cause of the problem is unknown.
However,an AD who cannot get a better HC than Flood has SERIOUS PROBLEM!!!!
Not being able to get a MAC HC(Temple) or a Sun Belt HC(FIU) does not show strength in a football program. If the NBE is going to be alive Rutgers needs to do much better than this by far.
Maybe its time to get a new AD at Rutgers???

Well I really hope it works out for You Guys. At least He knows the program. It's tough losing a good Coach during the off season like We did a few years ago. Not a lot of choices available right before signing period. Give the Guy support from the start and it may work out great. This is His Shot!

Starting base salary for Flood is 750,000. It goes up 100,00 each year, peaking at 1.15 million for '16. Safe to say Rutgers saved some cash

Yes. The question is whether it was worth it in the longrun. True or not, it sure looks like they went the cheap route.

The contract is fair considering his weak resume. I'm bothered they didnt shift more of the HC savings into the assistant coaches pool. We still need to hire a DC, i believe.

I'm sure they will shift some of that savings into the assistant coaches pool.
