Found this quote on the CUSA board
Quote:Found this on MWC Board, which in turn, orginially came from Wyoming Board. Based on comments made by MWC Commissioner Thompson.

"SCHEUDLE UPGRADE: MWC Commissioner Craig Thompson says the league will be looking to book more Big East and Conference USA schools in the near future, maybe as soon as next season. He says the league's new television agreement is a major reason."

"CSTV is really pushing for us to do a lot of cross scheduling with both Confernce USA and the Big East, Thompson says. We are more than willing to do that. I said we're not going to go there two times for (them coming to) our place once. But I think we're going to get a whole bunch of home and homes with those two leagues."

"We're going to make some made for TV events, if you will."

-- Maybe its just me...but the quote seems to be implying that the BE and CSTV are involved in somehow....but to my knowledge the only BE/CSTV deal has been for women's hoops/baseball etc...

-- Its hard to imagine the BE scheduling the MWC conference in hoops if we weren't direct to by a network...certainly playing non conference games against that league wouldn't be a "made for tv event" from our pespective

I agree with you.

Unless the Big East and CSTV are in negotiations, I find it hard to believe that the Big East schools would be motivated to schedule home-home basketball (and football) series with MWC schools. I think the Commisioner's thinking here is more wishful than anything. How is it cost/beneficial for any of the Big East teams (and Mountain West teams) to fly across the country for basketball games? It would make more sense for him to develop games between the PAC 10 and Big 12 as opposed to the Big East?

Why in the world would any Big East team want to play anyone from the MWC in bball other than maybe Utah? 2 for 1s then maybe but there is no reason to rack up those travel expenses to play lesser competition with little to no east coast exposure in the states that encompass the MWC. CUSA makes much more sense now that they are largely a league rooted in texas.

Also I'd like to know what this guy thinks a made for TV matchup with his league vs. the Big East would look like? Utah vs. Syracuse? Utah vs. Pitt? Utah vs. Louisville? Utah vs. UC? Utah vs UCONN? Poor Utah.

CSTV is probably trying to get MWC to schedule more games with CUSA since CSTV will be televising CUSA football and basketball games next year. Don't see how Big East football or men's basketball would fit into this since they are contracted out to ESPN.

It wouldn't be a bad idea if CSTV offered the Big East a Big East television network setup, that way they would be involved in markets across the United States with MWC, CUSA and the Big East.
