Syracuse can not prove that they would have won, if the goal tending call was properly called.
So we will never know, who would have won that in overtime.
Yes, West Virginia got hosed!
What makes you think the game would have gone into overtime with more than 10 seconds on the clock and SU scoring on 4 of its last 5 posessions and shooting a high percentage in the last 4 minutes of the game?
But we will never know, will we?

We wont but the way that SU was playing at the end of the game and having the lead during the entire second half and I think its likely that SU would have scored with 10 seconds left if the GT was called. WV had only won once in the history of the Dome when they arrived, and I think they would have left with the same amount of wins. WV did not get hosed.

Dont matter what we think. WVU was robbed. Officiating was absolutely terrible BUT WVU did have their chances and had the youthful guard play not shown up, 17 turnovers, we would have won going away. Yes the game should have been onto overtime, but we cannot change it now. Onto Big Monday with PITT.

RE: WVU BB got hosed today against Cuse!
I don't think what happened 15 years ago matters at all. If they call goaltending, sure I'll give Syracuse a 67% chance of winning the game based on having possession in a tied game with 10 seconds left, home court, and a better team over the course of the season.
As it stands though, the teams had played even for 59 minutes and 50 seconds, so I don't get the posts basically implying that the Orange were a near lock to win even if the call is reffed correctly.
EDIT: As an aside, it's tough to have sympathy though based on the WVU-UC game and the fact that UofL has been robbed in similar fashion by the refs at the end of the game on our last two trips to Morgantown. There simply are too many old, fat, overworked refs still in the game. Case in point, Jim Burr's old a** reffing the UofL-Seton Hall game that ended around 10pm in New Jersey, then calling the noon Notre Dame-UConn game 14 hours later in Storrs. I realize that may "only" be a 3 to 3.5 hr drive, but the guy cannot be at full effort in that 2nd game.

RE: WVU BB got hosed today against Cuse!
The thing that bugs me most about it is that the officials took the players out of the decision of the game altogether. I doubt that feels satisfying for either side, and anyone who thinks it does has never played...

It wasnt just youthful guard play. SU forces everyone into turnovers. The only team I believe that SU did not force at least 15 turnovers, I believe was ND.

It wasn't the freshmen guards turning the ball over either. Gary Browne and Jabarie Hinds had 1 TO between 'em. I think Truck had the most...

How many timeouts did Kevin Jones call with none left?

RE: WVU BB got hosed today against Cuse!
ESPN's Around the Horn and PTI both did segments on the terrible officiating in the WVU/Syracuse Game.
I think it was PTI that noted, while they were not in favor of any type of instant replay...they noted how the Big East, unlike what they did in the Big East Tourn a year or two ago when their refs blew 3 calls late in one game, they choose to remain SILENT on any comments or penalties against that officiating crew...most of whom officiated 21 different games in 29 days (now that is WAY too many...flying to a different city even on GAME DAYS, etc...all to squeeze another paycheck).
PTI guys noted other conferences make public statements when their refs make blown calls (Big East basically did that when they suspended the crew that worked that infamous Big East Tourn Game) but the conf choose not to in this case.

We all know why the conference chose not to. There's no need to state it...

The irony is that Syracuse would have been the ones getting screwed had Jones hit the game winning 3 at the buzzer. It's not often that you lose a game in regulation when you have the ball with 11 seconds left in a tie game.
