Yes I do actually. I think the informal meeting that 2002 is speaking of could be alot more volatile, and those in a more formal setting who couldn't be civil would obviously be removed.

I think a more formal meeting that also includes other people also provides a bit of cover for some on this board who may be associated with ETSU or the media and be fearful of backlash over any comments that they make if it is just us.

I think either way would be a boon to ETSU. After all, as 02 has said, there is a new, active and energized president on our campus now. Getting together and letting everyone know the passion that is out there now and how it can be tapped to bring back a real collegiate feel to our campus in the Fall would help the leaders see it and would give us hope that things are changing in a good way. I think it would be respectful and cordial wherever we do it. Imagine, if we all just sit down and plan out how we CAN do football here in East Tennessee. That would boost students, fans, alumni and folks in the community.

I think an athletics town hall is a great idea and hopefully something like this happens in the near future.

I object to it all, but that's really all I can say ... it's a he said, he said, he said.

As for the references to past issues, it's not fair to either of you guys to discuss those situations in a public forum. And I won't.

OK, that being said ...

As for the idea that a meeting would be under some sort of surveillance, that's just silly. Honestly ... come on. Any type of group gathering would be to allow for the type of dialogue that I think many on this board have been asking for -- a respectful, sensible sharing of ideas, thoughts, and opinions. All of this would be under the premise that we are moving forward, that there is a new president who will be shaping a new direction for the entire university (including athletics), and that bring this "broken" family back together needs to happen yesterday.

I do agree with Slappy on this one thing ... there needs to be a respect in all of this. Any type of burn them at the stake approach will simply will be D.O.A.

I hope the majority on this site can see this proposal as a legitimate and good faith request. And Gold, I can assure you Knight's is not on university property (I think the million beers on tap is a give away on that). 04-cheers

Well aren't you special, Mr. White!

You don't think I object to the personal digs I have to take on here? WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!!!

As far as your honesty, you left a position where you were a professional truth teller (journalist) to be a professional liar (flack). So please, don't come on here with that "I'm above it all" attitude. You most clearly are not and your own actions define this.

For instance, this idea this employee wasn't thrown under the bus. My God, the press release you sent out clearly throws her under the bus! When is she getting fired, anyway?

And then you want us to believe you're honest? PLEASE!

Statement regarding recent basketball promotion at ETSU

Thursday, January 26, 2012

East Tennessee State University extends its sincerest apologies to American Hole ’n One, Inc., after representing incorrectly earlier this week that the insurance company had denied a $20,000 prize claim that was to be given to a student who won a promotional contest during an ETSU basketball game.

In order to win this promotion, a participant must shoot a layup, a free throw, a 3-pointer and a half-court shot, and, if successful, the person wins a $20,000 prize or a car. American Hole ’n One, Inc. has insured this promotion in the past, but the policy had lapsed and had not been renewed for the current season.

An ETSU student won the promotion on Monday evening (Jan. 23) during the ETSU vs. Belmont University basketball game. A university employee spoke with American Hole ’n One, Inc. on Tuesday (Jan. 24) and was aware that the policy had lapsed but did not communicate that to the ETSU administration. No claim for the prize was ever filed with the insuror.

Unaware that the policy had expired, the university chose on Tuesday, Jan. 24, to award the money to the student and worked with contest sponsors Mountain States Health Alliance and Johnson City Honda to provide the cash prize, which the student will be allowed to keep. It was after the decision to award the prize that the ETSU administration learned that the policy had expired, that no claim had been filed, and that the employee had provided inaccurate information. The ETSU administration became aware of these issues during the late afternoon on Wednesday, Jan. 25. This situation is still under review.

ETSU has enjoyed an outstanding partnership with American Hole ’n One for many years. Again, ETSU extends a sincere apology to American Hole ’n One for its misrepresentation with regard to this error.

David Mullins

Director, Intercollegiate Athletics

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And you want to really tell me that ETSU isn't throwing Sara, or as it says here in this press release, "the employee," under the bus?

And then you want to tell me you're above having your honesty questioned?

Mr. White

Clean House and we'll talk. There can be no move forward until this Athletic Director is gone. The incompetence, deceit, culture of corruption, and overall athletic malaise can no longer be quietly tolerated. In the interest of East Tennessee State University Mullins should resign at once. There is no confidence in his leadership. The "broken family" you speak of when describing the fanbase cannot heal under this leadership. And you damn well know why.

As for an "attack on your character" that is nonsense. I don't recall calling you an outright liar. You told me you had the media in your back pocket a little over a year ago so I recognize there is a very small outside chance you forgot you said it. Nevertheless, say it you did.

02 if you want to talk you know where I'll be in both buildings when they come to Nashville. Meeting on a large scale would be a good thing, leaving the mud slinging and hurt feelings behind.

RE: Okay, really now. What do you REALLY think of the media covering ETSU?
Can someone explain to me the purpose of of this proposed meet up? Let alone the wisdom? What on earth do any of you expect to gain from meeting White out for a face to face chat? He is powerless to implement anything and his loyalty will lay him at the foot of his master. Even if he privately disagrees with him. So i ask again what is in it for any of us to partake in such a meeting? Nothing.

The purpose of this proposed meeting is to charm you out of your anger and disgust for the way this athletic program is operating. The friendly neighbor or one big family routine will serve no other function than softening you up. So if you want to feel a part of the club then by all means run into the open arms of Mr. White. If, however, you want above all else a successful etsu athletic program then don't waste your time. Hold out until Mullins is no more...if after that White still wants to talk then it should be considered. As of this very moment it is nothing more than a political game to disarm your discontent.

I guess it depends on what the actual goal of the meeting is. If its simply to unite and heal, then a cordial meeting with 02 at a bar is fine in my opinion. If it is to be a forum where opinions are voiced, then Noland would have to be there in a more controlled environment.

I don't know. What are the grievances, exactly? Is everyone in agreement on what they are? I'm new to the board but it seems that the meeting, if it were to take place at this point of time with this kind of preparation would be a mess. I often think these things are made effective by meetings before the meeting, to line up what the agenda is, who the audience is, and what is to be accomplished.
