It's tough to get too critical of anything during a 90-56 win but rebounding continues to be a huge problem. Getting out rebounded 38-29 by NIU is inexcusable. The last few days I've been reading things about Kent's rebounding trouble being related to their players not physically developing due to not having a dedicated strength trainer. I'm sorry, I just don't buy that. Our guys were clearly bigger, longer, more muscular, and more athletic thing NIU's and they still out rebounded us. Unless the strength trainer can teach guys to box out it wouldn't matter much.
One more thing, nice night from Brewer.
I just looked at the updated MAC stats through tonights games and NIU is one of the top rebounding teams in the conference (of course we are one of the worst).

RE: NIU
Wow, I had no idea. I was just going off what I saw in person. They looked small, skinny, had very little length, and play exclusively below the rim.
With that said, they have a +3.9 rebounding margin per game and we have a -1.5 so it was still worse than either teams average rebounding margin. Also, remember they were without Toler who is tied for the team lead at 5.1 rpg.

In the world of baby steps some good things happened. Ball State and EMU got their 2nd loss and WMU was strapped with their third. Plus, Miami now has five. These are good things.

RE: NIU
NIU is easily the worst D1 MAC team since Reggie Witherspoons first year when he took over mid-season at UB. If we can take down UT and CMU than maybe (and thats a big maybe) we can talk about turning the corner with this team.
Still very concerned about lack of RB, chucking too many 3's, zero inside presence other than Greene and really sometimes head scratching decisions.

Miami is DONE. They are no threat or worry to us at all.

After catching up on some sleep I re read this post and realized it sounded like I was dismissing the value of a dedicated trainer. While I don't think it's really affecting our rebounding this year this could become a major concern in the next few years. It seems the program has started focusing on recruiting a lot more 4 year players so we're going to be seeing less guys showing up on campus physically ready to compete at this level (they can't all be Javon McCrea's right?).
