RE: I'm happy for Mick
How about we make this about Mick and not about posters here or nitpicking eacother. Huge win last night, huge recovery and leadership by him when this season appeared to be teetering on the abyss after the XU game, huge season last year finally getting us back to the tourney.

The guy has worked so hard and put so much effort into building this thing back from the basement foundation on up. He started with nothing and now we're a proud program again with a very fun team to watch. Its really amazing to see where we were and where we are right now, and every reason to believe he can sustain this success and keep building on it.

In light of all that I think we're ALL happy for the guy. Anyone NOT presently happy for Mick, a Cincinnati kid and UC alum, in light of all that, should go over to Victory Parkway because they sure as hell aint UC fans.

RE: I'm happy for Mick
I've been critical of mick in the past, but I ain't eaten any crow.

Look, there is no crime in calling it how it is. I said many times last year mick SHOULD be fired if they don't make the tourney. To me it was obvious he had the manpower to do so.

I'm sure some days in practice, mick gets on yancy for not performing well. If he praises then praises him in another practice, does mick have to eat crow?

Too many of you grown a$$ men have a twilight mentality where you have to be Team Mick, or Team anti mick.

I just call a spade a spade.

Hold on. You can't just knock rath for his selective memory and then undersell your posts as "moments of doubt" in the same breath. You constantly criticized Mick and called for him to be fired repeatedly while attacking anyone who defended him. (In your defense, you weren't alone on this board btw).

So while I appreciate you being happy for Mick for triumphing over Calhoun last night, hopefully you can understand why some of us are also happy for Mick for triumphing (at least for now) over the so-called UC fans who have treated him brutally at times in this rebuilding journey.

I'm sure you've been a model of consistency in regard to Mick. (sarcasm)

Feel free to search the record - sure I might have disagreed with things but I've never not been on the guy's side overall. Just because you hop on and off bandwagons myopically and go from extreme to extreme doesn't mean everyone does. (no sarcasm)

Quote:Leave it to Hawk to take someone's admission of doubt and use it as a knife to stick it in harder.

Leave it to chatter to play the victim card when he's the one in the wrong. You didn't just have "doubt", you repeatedly mocked him and called for him to be fired. Anything said that was even remotely positive about Mick was often met with a beck-on-politics-level sarcastic reply. I frequently disagreed with your attacks at the time they were made, but this isn't intended as an "I told you so" post. I'm sure there will be plenty of rough times in the future. It's primarily your hypocrisy and revisionist history I'm calling out here.

Quote:My feelings on Mick have been a rollercoaster ride from start until now.........I'm sure like many. Why that is a big deal, I have no idea.

Besides being unwarranted and foolish, the attacks from you and others did nothing to help the program in terms of both stability and support from other fans. IMO, had UC followed your frequently obnoxious and redundant advice, it would have been a mistake equal to the Huggins fiasco.

Yes, I take great pleasure in seeing a local kid and UC grad overcome tremendous obstacles and the abuse of many who should have had his back, or at least shown a reasonable amount of patience with the rebuilding of the program. Why that is a big deal, I have no idea - unless it hits too close to home.

Congrats and welcome on your rejoining the "I appreciate Mick club". We're happy to have both you and Calhoun on board. 04-cheers There's still room on the bandwagon for your fellow long-term haters, critics or even the self-described "doubters". Hopefully you'll decide to stay beyond our next loss.

Who gives a rats rectum who said what. How friggin good is it to be a Bearcat right now!?!? Haven't been this upbeat about a team in years. Hopefully they keep taking this one game at a time. Don't look ahead to Monday, focus on getting another W at WVU and don't get big headed here. My one concern right now is when we get a little success our guys seem to start believing the headlines and that they're better than they are. Mick's gonna have to keep them hungry and humble. That said this group of kids seems like they're pretty well grounded to begin with.

Hawk.

I could care less what you think. You spend your time on this message board simply seeking out people to debate, argue with, disagree with, all the while tooting your own horn and how right you always are. I'll simply put you on ignore and I hope you do the same to me. I have no need for your self serving "know it all" comments.

Have a nice life.

I'll choose to just enjoy this moment, this season, this team and coaching staff, and being a Bearcat fan!

Agreed.

And I can see continued success next year if we find a big man that can step up and replace Yancy. Jeremiah Davis can replace Dixon. Shaquille Thomas will be added.

I'm just hoping this success finally adds up to improved recruiting. I'm not complaining about the guys we have. They have stepped up to the plate. But there are impact guys we have missed out on, and I hope that begins to change.

Luckily for UC they play much better on the road, if this was a home game I'd think trap game..but because its on the road if we lose it'll be because they were the better team.

The thing is a really strong conference season, a run in the BE tourney and/or another dance appearance and a decent run in the dance could really make us the hot program. Think about what Mick has been able to do recruiting-wise with absolutely no buzz or hype aorund our program. If he's got an NCAA tourney apperance from last year plus what will hopefully be a great remainder of the season this year (some high profile national tv wins like last night), I think he's going to really start catching some higher profile kids' attention. Kids are trendy and like whatever is hot right now. We're starting to get some major pub from national media and networks. Depending on how we end up this season, it could really help him get on a roll in recruiting.

It might be a blessing that we did not sign anyone in the fall. Probably can afford to be a bit more selective.

Thinking like a cigarette company, I like it!
I think we may have an impact player in Shaq Thomas...
When it comes to the Big East though, most players are not immediately good.
You need a significant group of vets each year.

As long as he keeps the classes balanced, we'll be fine imo.
I actually think the class we brought in this year, is better than most we've had with Cronin.
They'll be more consistant with their scoring as time goes on, but they have confidence, they play good defense and have way less face palm moments; than I remember with previous classes.

RE: I'm happy for Mick
Looking at the roster, we only lose two players (Dixon and Gates) so we only have two scholarships open, unless someone is run off.

0 Jeremiah Davis III 6-3 200 G FR HS Muncie, Ind./Huntington Prep (W.Va.)
3 Dion Dixon 6-3 195 G SR 3L Chicago, Ill./Crane Technical Prep Common
2 Octavius Ellis 6-9 210 F FR HS Memphis, Tenn./Whitehaven
10 Alex Eppensteiner 6-3 210 G JR 2L Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder
24 Kelvin Gaines 6-10 225 C RS FR HS Ocala, Fla./Arlington Country Day
34 Yancy Gates 6-9 260 F SR 3L Cincinnati, Ohio/Withrow
14 Ge'Lawn Guyn 6-1 175 G FR HS Georgetown, Ky./South Kent Prep (Conn.)
5 Justin Jackson 6-8 210 F SO 1L Cocoa Beach, Fla./Arlington Country Day
23 Sean Kilpatrick 6-4 215 G/F SO 1L White Plains, N.Y./Notre Dame Prep
13 Cheikh Mbodj 6-10 245 C JR TR Dakar, Senegal/Grayson County (Texas) College
44 JaQuon Parker 6-3 210 G JR 2L Suffolk, Va./King's Fork
15 Jermaine Sanders 6-5 225 F FR HS Far Rockaway, N.Y./Rice High School
11 Shaquille Thomas 6-7 180 F FR HS Paterson, N.J./NIA Prep
1 Cashmere Wright 6-0 175 G JR 2L Savannah, Ga./Urban Christian Academy

If we can go on what is posted on the recruiting board (and man, I sure hope we can) then we will be bringing in a JUCO (Titus Rubles, 6'8" Forward) , Christopher Obekpa (6'8" Forward) and basically Thomas and Ellis will be RS FR. That does seem to balance up the classes. In 2013, it would seem that we should be looking toward guards.

ME TOO but sadly, we will have a bunch of fans want him out if we won 3 straight NCAA tourneys and then had a bad year after that. Many will jump off and on the bandwagon forever. It even happens at NOrth Carolina and Duke, with some fans.
