Man. Watched that first half again. Great hour of a recruiting pamphlet.

You have got to be kidding me! What a team they've become! Props to everyone!
Had to work tonight and only saw bits and pieces. Checked the score when I was finished and couldn't believe it. Thank God for DVR!

I now feel that this program is officially back to where it belongs. Last year was great, but now its official!

When we went four guards he was great at helping the smaller defender against the other UCOnn big, while at the same time not giving up on his own man. I have just been so impressed with him during this run. This team could not play the style they play, at the level they are playing, without him.

I really love how Yancy has adapted and flourished in his new role. What a turnaround!

If you recall, Yancy got tied up on a rebound early in the first half and fell on the floor. He was very late getting back and UConn got to the tin for an easy duece. Mick pulled him off the floor and sat him on the bench. Yancy was never late getting back the rest of the game.

I've waited a couple hours and I am still not calmed down. What a win. This cannot be said enough, this is team is damn fun to watch.

Early on we struggled with two bigs in the game. As soon as Parker came in, they could defend us. Parker never ceases to surprise me with the defense and rebounding effort he puts out on a guy usually 6 inches bigger than him.

Again tonight to's were the key, only 6 turnovers for the cats. That is 9 turnovers in 2 games.

A note on the officiating, I think if you guys didn't read posts during the game you wouldn't get yourselves all worked up about it. Personally I loved it. This is the Big ******* East not the SEC.

Also, great comment from MC on the postgame, Dan and Chuck were commenting about the 8 straight road wins and MC said he thought it was funny how ESPN couldn't wait to put up his road record while he was "rebuilding the Titanic" but now it seems they don't discuss it as much. Cronin coaches with a chip on his shoulders which passes on to his team. Love it.

Hell of a game. Keep it up Bearcats.

Post game article, apparently UConn was alone, as the Big East's second best team before tonight. Though, one would think looking at the record, we were right there with them...
Guess they should just keep beating other teams, while the media moves slowly to kiss their ass in the process.

watched the game at fries today with a buddy. under two minutes to go uc up eight and he's proclaiming victory. he starts talking about something else and i look at him and say, "there still is like a lot of time left!" jesus. we never should have let it come down to that final shot, but wow. f*cking wow! killa! living up to his name! besides that moment, my favorite of the game was where cash slipped and appeared to be down for the count, gets the ball after a stopped clock and drains a trey. and jeremiah davis III's shot to end the half. i knew we weren't going to keep a double digit lead against uconn, esp at uconn. just so so happy to escape with a w. man is life good. the walk home was just that much more pleasant.

How awesome has this team been in the last 5 minutes of games? Since Oklahoma they have been unreal, other than the missed free throws tonight.

They had the comebacks against Oklahoma and Georgetown. The close ones with Pitt and Georgetown and Villanova. Even the St. Johns game they almost came back and won.

Can't wait for Saturday

We missed the front end of what 3 straight 1 and 1's in the last minute? That allowed Napier to hit some ridiculous looking threes. Almost gave that one away, but I still have confidence in our guys at the line at the end of games, just for some reason it did not work out today.

Also big props to Yancy Gates who does not get nearly enough credit for how great he has been for UC of late. His one on one defense has been spectacular. He has been absolutely shutting down his man. Even when he does not get rebounds he keeps so many rebounds alive for other Bearcats. Tonight I thought his help defense was great as well. Also he does not get many offensive chances, but he's been pretty efficient with those as well.

Absolutely a great win for the Bearcats! Now bring on Huggy Bear and that Hillybilly university on Saturday.

Completely agree.

Yancy played a great game and really took Drummond out of the equation completely. Very very impressive.

13pts 12rbs vs drummond at 4 pts 6rbs.

Yancy is playing smart ball and fitting into the system in the best way to help the team WIN. He has earned props and deserves a lot of credit for our wins IMO.

All I'll add to this is the fact that some people (even Mike DeCourcey, who likes Mick and defends UC) thinks for some reason Yancy lacks on the defensive end. All I will say is that couldn't be further from the truth.

It was awesome to hear all the different publications pick Drummond over Yancy when matchups were being discussed for this game....And then Yancy just beat the sh-t out of him.

I'm still bothered by the offense. It's really no different other than more guys on the floor who can shoot. Too much standing around waiting for someone else to pass me the ball so I can shoot a three as the shot clock winds down.

Fortunately, we're shooting the ball very well right now, but we can't rely on that the whole season.

I think it is different now. You see much more driving in the lane than at the beginning of the year. You see guys getting just inside the free throw line and getting wide open jumpers there. There is much more motion than at the beginning of the year, which was mostly just guys standing in one place passing the ball around.

UC could be stronger inside on offense. Maybe Mbodj will come around and give Yancey some help or at least more chances to rest.

If you include Jeremiah Davis, UC has 4 guards shooting 37% or better from three point range (updated for last night's game, SK 40%, Wright 37.3%, Parker 56%, Davis 37%). Opponents have to respect the three and play tighter defense which opens up the lanes to the basket more. And the attention to the guards has lead to more single coverage on Yancy which frees him up too.

i definitely think its different. Best example is Davis. Used to be a stand still 3 pt shooter, now when he gets the ball and its not a wide open trey, he'll drive the lane and his floater is probably the best on the team. Dixon should be taking notes when Davis shoots his floater in the lane.

The penetration and attacking from our guards has made a world of difference, as a couple of others have pointed out.

Davis does have a nice floater, but Dixon and Parker have nice turnaround, fadeaway jumpers in the lane. Parker can shoot the floater down the lane as well.

Yancy held Drummond to 4 points while posting a double-double himself.

I was at Gampel and Drummond looked the part of a nervous freshman!
He looked awkward and confused and had to be a disappointment to the many NBA scouts in attendance!
Calhoun's game plan was to pound it inside to wear down Gates and get him in foul trouble.
No chance as Oriakhi and Drummond were complete no-shows!
6 points total between them!!
UConn just could not get the ball to their go to guy Jeremy Lamb, but he looked disinterested anyway!
UConn desperately needs Boatright's quickness to energize them particularly on defense!
Give all the credit to the Bearcats as they were mentally tough and determined to work a full 40!!
They were raining NBA three's upon the Huskies!
Well done Cincy!! 03-weeping

RE: Cincinnati at Connecticut Game Thread
It's mucho fun watching the Cats since the offense has opened up. I would have said that even if we would have lost a couple more games out of our last ten.

That said, I still think this team could be even more complete if they could learn to run the break. Outlet pass, ball in the middle of the court, fill the lanes... resulting in a layup, short jumper or spot up three.

You can see opponents stretching their defense to make the three ball a tougher shot since BE play started. Eventually, I think we will need the fast break as another weapon to open the floor and regain spacing for our guards.

Defense is still solid, even though we are giving up more ppg, it's a trade-off of the offense we use now.

Go Cats...
