RE: Coaching Staff
The good thing about this situation is that there is some flexibility within the staff. As has been mentioned, Kane could coach LBs, Frisman Jackson could coach RBs or WRs, and Bob Cole could switch to QBs and even take over as coordinator. With that flexibility, Doeren should focus on finding the best football coach he can find, and fit the pieces together from there.

RE: Coaching Staff
Mike Dunbar looks good to me for a finalist.
I am confused though. Is he with the current NM new coaching staff or the previous staff?
What do you think our options are for RB or TE/FB coach?

If Cole hasn't been promoted to OC yet and they really are going to go outside to hire one, there is only one man for the job.

I just don't see it.
I wouldn't mind but I don't see it.

I think you're reading too much into that. I could be wrong, though.

Toledo's coach is from BG? That's priceless.

Actually the last two. Beckman was the DC at BG for Urban Meyer and then Campbell was their OC before he became to Toledo's Co-OC in 2009. BG fans don't like it at all.

I don't see anything in Jackson's background that tells me he would be a great running back's coach.
OC-- how about Thomas Hammock?

Couldn't be. I'm sure someone on this board said that NEVER happens. (Didn't Nick Saban do that?) Couldn't have because it NEVER happens!
(On Nick Saban, I was referring about going from LSU to Alabama, not from Toledo to Michigan State.)

RE: Coaching Staff
With Tuke at Toledo, I'm wondering if Toledo will now do that locked-arm sway when the players enter the field? Maybe when we play them, we could do dueling sways. Just hope they don't try to run over our band. We better put some big bruiser bouncers in pads on the field to protect the band.

Great point about the flexibility Doeren has right now with multiple coaches who can fill different roles.
Love the blog too.
Luke Swan would be a natural move depending on how the offensive coaches get aligned.
Ditto McCray if they go outside for the LB job.

RE: Coaching Staff
Doeren's list intrigues me with the OC thing.
Overall with his hires, when it's guys he's worked with, he tends to go deeper into his history. But Canada was his first pick for OC and he'd never worked with him, and regardless of the state of his list, he hired Friz with no connection.
Makes me think the new OC will be one of Cole, someone DD is tied to from Montana/KU (or even Drake) days, or a Canada type pick (maybe someone he coached against).
As I look at it now, that's a lot like a weatherman saying it will either be sunny or cloudy.

Saban went from Toledo to the NFL (Browns I think) then to Michigan State, and then the LSU to Alabama thing that was your point.
Yeah, it definitely happens. And just this morning UT stole another defensive assistant coach from BG. Was their outside linebackers coach and he is coming to Toledo to coach DB's and special teams.

:iagree:
Yep, w/o Tuke rallying the players last year; there's no way NIU beats a veteran Fresno State team in a bowl game played only 2 weeks after a crushing MAC title game defeat and loss of most of the coaching staff. He is to be congratulated for that effort.
When it rains it pours though, Tuke is gone and Canada has moved north of the cheddar curtain border.

Fill that RB position...
Welcome back, Friz.
I'll try to not hold the whole transfer to WIU thing against him anymore.
And yeah, like NIUpride says, I would think Kane would flip to LBs.
Yeah hiring a new coach who left NIU after playing in DeKalb for 3 years to transfer to WIU is a strange one but he does know the program.

I think Randall McCray is more likely to end up back at Wisconsin now that the Badgers special teams coach has left for Kansas. He looks like he has too much experience for us to get unless he really liked working for Doeren over Bielema for half the pay.

LMAO. Santacaterina poured one out for coach Tuke.
