A 16 team playoff may also be considered...

RE: Interesting article on the future of the BCS
I either want the system to be kept as is, or a 16 team playoff.

I'm still not sure if a playoff is good for players health, though.

Oh, and if a 16 team playoff does come about. Would minor bowls still exist? What would become of the BCS bowls?

RE: Interesting article on the future of the BCS
I do not think automatic qualifiers will be dropped. The more I think about it, the more I think the Big East, ACC and possibly the PAC-12 have nothing to gain by dropping the automatic qualifiers.
The SEC, B1G and Big XII with their large fan bases and popular teams would dominate any playoff if there is no automatic qualifier.
Why should the ACC agree to something that in all liklihood result in the ACC getting shut out from any BCS playoff by teams from the SEC, B1G and Big XII.
I suspect the existing system will be kept but I can see the six major conferences (yes including the Big East) maintain control of the BCS.

Actually the term AQ will simply be replaced with "Tie In". You add the Cotton and give the Big East that Tie In as a compromise for upgrading the Cotton. Fiesta will keep Big XII and the same with Orange and the ACC.

RE: Interesting article on the future of the BCS
Just a few thoughts:

1: There is no incentive to simply drop the AQ status unless the Big 6 get get something in its place.
2: You cannot simply dump one of the AQs, whether the BCS remains or not. You need to have a clear majority of the BCS level schools in agreement with whatever plan is accepted.
3: If you drop one of the AQ conferences, you shift he balance of teams to the minor teams. This allows that group to out vote or pursue anti-trust litigation. Check back in the Big East board for full discussions regarding AQ status and the balance issue.
4: Whatever plan is devised, there must remain opportunity for the lower conferences to play in the big games, regardless of how remote the chance.

I like a 16 team playoff with all 11 conference winners and 5 at large bids. The teams are seeded as they are in hoops and other sports. winners are determined on the field and not by a coach's ballot or a screwball biased sports writer.
