Navy for 2015 or before
See this old article from the Baltimore Sun:

And this new article about Naval Academy recruiting and the Big East.

RE: Navy for 2015 or before
Would be good if Navy can come in by 2013 with the 5 other new members. If W. Va has to stay, we will have 14 f/b members for 2013. When W. Va, Pitt and Cuse leave in 2014 we will drop down to 11, so we have to have # 12 ready to come in for that year.

I'm predicting that WVU, Pitt, and Cuse will have to stay through 2013 and that Navy and Air Force will come in for the 2014 season.

There is no evidence that Air Force is considering the Big East at this point. They've closed that door, for now.

I'd like to see Navy become competitve in the conference. Then Army and Air Force may reconsider. That would get us to 13. Then we can contact BYU and they might be ready at that point to join as #14.

That would be an ideal 14 team conference. We can always fill-in as needed with Temple, Memphis, etc. if we can't get Army, Air Force, or BYU.

If the Big East TV contract negotiations next year yeilds per school earnings something close to or in excess of BYU's current TV contract amount, then I think something could be worked out with BYU. That would allow BYU to come in to the league along with Navy in 2014 or 2015 to get to 12.

That would be an interesting scenario. I am hoping/expecting the new TV contract to be significant with the increased competition provided by NBC. I know that revenue/school will be the driving force. You could be right about BYU. If not BYU, we could make another run at Air Force and Army. Also Memphis I'm sure would be excited about joining and we could use their basketball. I'm sure Navy would like that because of the Navy fanbase that already exists in Memphis. Who knows, maybe WVU or Pitt will change their minds about leaving.

Never really thought about having all 3 Academies, that would be interesting.

Army and Navy would be a nice fit regionally for Rutgers and Uconn, and Air Force would add another true western school. All have national appeal and would be great destinations for traveling fans.

The fourth school under this scenario could easily be Temple, making the east coast presence even stronger, providing a good football program and a solid basketball school. BYU is the other choice for 14 and would trump Temple in my opinion if the Big East and BYU could make it work equitably.

That would be good, but I think Memphis would be more likely than Temple for the fourth school because of Villanova and the A-10, and it's another market. Besides Army, Navy, UConn, Rutgers, UCF, and USF give a pretty good east coast presence to the conference.

I just realized "IF" the Big East were to reach out and Army accept, the conference would have a round table full of Knights. The Holy Grail Conference!

Army Black Knights
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
UCF Knights

I've seen the movie and don't want to spoil it for anyone . . . . but, the Black Knight, not so good. :ninja:

That would be pretty cool. We could have a Sword or Shield trophy that the three of us play for every year.

Also, if ECU gets in for all sports we would have two sets of Pirates (along with Seton Hall). Now all we need are some Ninjas.

And if Air Force and Memphis join, all kinds of birds and animals: Bearcats, Huskies, Cardinals, Eagles, Panthers, Bulls, Wildcats, Mustangs, Cougars, Broncos, Falcons and Tigers.

If WVa, Pitt and/or Syracuse is playing in the Big East in 2013, then it would be great if Navy was ready for 2014.

I really do get it. That most of the posters on this board have no interest in conference realignment. I really do get it.
