The thought did cross my mind. He does have the credentials to be a CIA operative. Nothing would surprise me when it comes to our intelligence agencies.

I guarantee we have operatives all over that country.

Who says they didn't?

I doubt that he would have been foolish enough to try to enter with an American passport. I am fairly certain that the Iranians would not have let him in if he had tried.

I did see that he was born in the US, so not strictly an expat (to my understanding). I don't know if he'd have dual citizenship. Iranians who are in the US or have been approved to come here, generally go to and fro when they want to ... not to say there aren't obstacles, but I don't think travel is a huge barrier. Rice has a basketball player who has said he has no guarantee that he can return to the US if he goes back to Iran, but it's apparently been manageable thus far.

We did arrest an Iranian ex-pat for a terrorist plot last summer. But, he's a piece of **** and I can't imagine the Iranians making an effort like this to get him back.

My guess is that in the wake of the rescue of the Iranian fishermen....Ackmadinnerjacket is trying to pull off of his stunts. He will hold this guy for a while wait until he gets plenty of press and then let him go to show Iran's commitment to human rights. There will be some convoluted reasoning for all of this. This is not his first rodeo of insanity.
