Since WD is no longer here...
How about some meaningless OOC talk.

http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2012...aft-status

WV looks to be canceling it's 09/08/12 game @ FSU. So FSU would have a week 2 opening that they will be desperate to fill with a home game.

Would you guys rather see us at home playing FCS UT Martin or playing a likely highly ranked FSU team, likely on real national TV for a real paycheck?

The only realistic down side I can think of is that next year we could really use that FCS game for bowl eligibility.

Teams also reported to have a problem filling their schedules is Oklahoma (even if WV does join the B12).

I see opportunities for AD Compher to pull a quick one and get a Soldier Field game out of these with a likely 2-1 arrangement.

I would like to see the huskies play either of those teams. If it did happen, I doubt a 2 for 1 would happen.

Even if we payed them the 1.5mil+ that Iowa is likely to receive?

My understanding is that you need 7 wins if you have a win against a FCS team. I would rather NEVER play a FCS team. The only time I think it is OK is when we play WIU, SIU, ISU or EIU. Your basically given those teams a shot - other than that it is brutal.

What ever happened with Memphis?

Did Compher move on that?

I want the Tigers.

:iagree:

No more FCS games. And only SIU, WIU, or EIU when ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to fill out the 12-game schedule if it proves to be really difficult one year to get that 12th game.

You can be 6-6 with a FCS win to get to a bowl game. Just can't have two FCS games count if it is on your schedule.

Really? I didn't know this. If so, why does the Illness play FCS teams? They played South Dakota State early in the season...they're in the MVC I think. Illness was bowl eligible with their 6 wins. Maybe I'm missing something....01-wingedeagle

I think it will happen for 2014 & 2016.

I would rather we play @ Memphis on Labor Day weekend so I can go. I am in Southern Illinois that weekend anyways and that would be the only way I could go to a Huskie game.

Our 2012 schedule is already filled. Besides, we already have two BCS teams on the 2012 schedule.

Right. Arizona State went 6-6 last year with 2 FCS wins (1 of which was an emergency reschedule of a game somebody backed out of) and they unsuccessfully petitioned to be deemed bowl-eligible.

This would involve NOT playing FCS UT Martin.

Also I know this will NOT happen. However, I know there are a handful of AQ programs that are in a BAD need of a home game this year and we could use it to our advantage to get a home game at HS, WF or SF.

See UIHuskie's post above for a good example of what AQ teams don't want to happen.

I am looking forward to the week 2 home opener then the week 4 Kansas game. Both of these games should have better attendance than any game this year.

Also, if the huskies played at FSU or Oklahoma and put up a tough game or win(unlikely), that could maybe help with recruiting in those areas. This could be a good idea that would pay off way more than playing UT Martin.

I'll take the W against UT Martin when we're already playing KU at home and Iowa at Solider Field.

But taking the W against Memphis looks better and will be more satisfying.

Memphis just got a new AD and Coach. They could be much better after 2 seasons so I am not so sure this is a guaranteed W as it looked a few months ago.

I ment dropping the UT Martin game for traveling to FSU or OK. I like the way the schedule next year is set up and theres a good opportunity to get back into double digit wins with it.

Agreed.

After yesterdays performance by Lynch and Womble I like our 2012 schedule as is.
