Bowl attendance results to date.
http://www.holyturf.com/2011/12/bowl-att...2011-2012/

Some pretty good attendance figures this year with some good match-ups. The article posted a picture of the TicketCity bowl suggesting that the announced attendance was inflated.....it was on ESPNU so I didn't see that game and cannot comment.

The Beef O Brady's Bowl was the worst attended..I think it was worst last year as well.

Be nice to see a sellout for the GoDaddy.com Bowl..with relatively nearby Ark State in the game I would think that is a very realistic scenario.

The Houston fans showed up decently as you can see by their upper deck section. However the Penn St section was not even half as full. It did not seem like the town cares about this bowl. I can't say that a MAC opponent could do any better than PSU though.

The stadium holds 92k and 90% of the upper level was empty along with the lower level sideline to sideline endzones being 50% full if that. The picture on the first link is of the other side that was not seen on TV so with that I would have guessed the actual attendance at 26k.

What the bowl did was actually smart for TV purposes as they put both schools fans on the side that faces the TV cameras. It kind of sucks for the PSU fans to be on the Houston side but...

The MAC should get a game in Indianapolis going vs. Big East.

Toledo could have played in Indianapolis vs. Louisville in front of 40,000 while Temple fought Air Force in the Military with 35,000 in the stands.

With my 2014 bowl lineup in place these games could have been

1. Mobile (NIU vs. Ark State)
2. Detroit (WMU vs. Purdue)
3. Indianapolis (Toledo vs. Louisville)
4. Boise (Ohio vs. Nevada)
5. Washington (Temple vs. Air Force)
6. Los Angeles (Ball State vs. Utah State)

Every MAC bowl eligible team goes bowling......

The listed attendance was 46k. Even if that were true that's a disappointing number. You would think two ranked teams would grab a decent share of casual fans. Houston should have brought a ton of fans since it was only a four-hour drive and i'm sure they have a decent-sized alumni base in Dallas.

From what I saw most of the stadium was red. I think Houston brought quite a few fans and the locals supported it. I didn't see much 'White' in the crowd though.

Independence attendence was bad. LV Bowl attendence is pathetic. And Beef O Brady can't even lie well!

I don't think the LV Bowl can accommodate more. I saw the game and the stadium looked filled.

Hawaii Bowl was the worst. They had maybe 5-10k people in there.

I didn't see the Hawaii Bowl but I've seen lots of comments how only a few thousand were on hand...still, they announced a ridiculously high attendance figure..wasn't it over 40K? If so, that's gotta be the most creative counting of attendance at any bowl this year..sure, the Beef O Brady's Bowl probably only had 12K on hand, but they only announced 20K and ended up the lowest offical attendance of any bowl game to date. I looked it up, and they had about the same attendance last year, 20K, which was the worst in 2010 as well.

That's probably because the Dallas/Ft. Worth area has 3 bowl games! The Cotton Bowl, Armed Forces Bowl, and the Ticket City Bowl.

Also, the Poinsettia Bowl have 24,000 at that bowl. San Diego also has 2 bowls games and it looks like they can't support it if the Navy or San Diego St. isn't in it. That's why there should not be more than one bowl in any city.

I think they reported 32k. It was hard to tell how many were there because people were scattered throughout the entire stadium.

RE: Bowl attendance results to date.
Remember when we had the Vegas Bowl vs. the Big West and only drew 17-20K in good years?? The Vegas Bowl has struggled for years, but lately has had some good match-ups and decent attendance. I was pleasantly surprised to see how decent the crowds were in New Mexico (for Wyoming and Temple which ain't exactly "next door" participants) and the Boise Bowl. That stadium was pretty full as well so I suspect the locals support it well. I would be interested in hearing from the BobCat faithful here if their players and fans enjoyed their experience in Boise.

Speaking of MAC bowls, the weather has been very nice down in Mobile, but it's supposed to rain this Sat and Monday with Sunday (gameday) outlook as cloudy and in the 60's....not bad if the rain holds off. Good luck to the Huskies!

I was at BOTH the Ticket City Bowl (seeing my school get its butt kicked) and the Motor City Bowl (simply as a football fan).

Benchmarking the crowds against each other, I think the 46K figure for the Ticket City Bowl was legitimate. Both games had around the same # of people.

Although UH clearly had the majority of fans, I'd put the PSU representation at 12-15K. Not too bad.

RE: Bowl attendance results to date.
Updated comparisons of each bowl vs. last year's attendance. Overall per game attendance is down 2.5%, but with 35 bowls that still means more people than ever at actually attending bowl games. Note comment about 13 bowls back in late 70's which is why a couple of very good MAC teams in that era (Miami's '77 squad that went 10-1 comes to mind for me) did not get bowl bids back
then.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/f...52368758/1

The MAC bowls this season did as follows:
New Mexico Bowl: down 6,662 from 2010
Idaho Bowl: up 2,627
Military Bowl: down 13,000 (to be fair, last year's game had two eastern located teams in ECU and Maryland)
LCPB: up 13,746

Last year's GoDaddy with Miami and MTSU drew 38K, almost a sellout..with good weather I'd expect the same this year with NIU and Ark State.

I half way agree but would you really have been upset if it was Toledo playing TX A&M if NU/Purdue & Illinois all had lost one more game?

I really don't care about attendance at bowls other than when the inflate the numbers. So what if Penn St can afford to eat 15k tickets. This corporate bowl system is crappy but I am not sure that a playoff would be much better unless it was at a home stadium for the first few rounds.
