Think about that statement for a minute.

...yes? Other then missing the word "additional" if your being picky, which I know you always are, I don't see a problem.

Do you understand how TV ratings are determined?

As my family is paid to be apart of them, yes I do.

NU drops to 6-7.

Losing record, still no Bowl victory since 1723.
Party like it's 1949! Chicago's Big Ten Team! Ha!

UCLA - Illness bowl game = pathetic. Just pathetic. Neither of those teams should have even been in a bowl game IMO.

As long as there are 35 bowl games, you're going to get games like that.

I get the hate for U of I, many of you believe rightly or wrongly that Champaign has been holding NIU back but I don't get the hate for NU.

NU being a private university has no input on state spending and in past seasons has allowed the Huskies to use NU's IPF when preparing for bowl games. Phillips (like HWSNBN) got a huge raise to come to NU, did you think he was going to make NIU his last career stop? When Phillips moves on from NU (which will happen in the next 5 years if he's successful) I'll be grateful for what he's done to improve the program. Continuing to hate on someone who took a better financial opportunity for their family and a position that allows them to be in closer proximity to them is shortsighted and childish.

"Allow me to retort!"

There is no hatred for JP that I know of. I still look back on JP's tenure here as a positive, even though he made a couple bad coaching hires. I think he got our facilities upgrades moving in high gear. JP also was responsible for raising the profile of NIU, especially in the Chicago area. The first Soldier Field game was sheer genius. Even after the football success of 2002-2004, how many of us could have imagined NIU playing in front of a sold-out crowd at SF? I also appreciate the fact that JP has allowed us to use Northwestern's IPF for pre-bowl practices.

I do respect Northwestern as a strong academic institution, but there is a dislike of Northwestern among NIU fans for a couple reasons. First, they refuse to play us in football even though the game(s) are all but guaranteed to be hugely popular. I'm sure we'd take a 2 for 1 with one game in Huskie Stadium. Second, there is a definite arrogance about Northwestern. "Chicago's Big Ten team?" Northwestern is not a Chicago team. They're in the in the upscale north suburbs. And, almost every Northwestern fan I've met has an attitude that they're better than us.

Evidently, you're a Northwestern fan first and a Huskie fan second. Does it really surprise you that people on an NIU message board, feel this way about Northwestern?

Make it nice and simple. There are 3 FBS teams in Illinois. We want to be the best and consider NU and the U of I our rivals. And they don't acknowledge that even though we have been close to being the best team in the state often recently.

You do know we've only played them in Evanston and Champaign, right? IMO, we'd beat them both on a neutral field.

We are the best college football team in Illinois.

This is the key point to remember when comparing any head to head results of NIU against NU and Illinois. Like I always say, the series doesnt start and comparisons do not start until one of those teams plays @ Huskie Stadium

Yea, and you could argue against it if every one of those games wasn't close. Need to get some of these schools at home at least occasionally, though I don't see that happening.

RE: Cheese is awesome
I'm an NU fan, but I have a lot of respect for the NIU program. I got into college football in the early 1990's, when both programs were down on their luck- to say the least- so I felt a small kinship with the Huskies. I remember excitedly reading about LeShon Johnson's feats; he was probably my first favorite non-NU player. Both programs have come a long way since then, and NIU has done it with a lot fewer resources.

I get the NU hate though. We're an average BCS team and that gets us to nice bowl games. Meanwhile, NIU has been dominating the MAC lately and gets shipped off to places like Boise and Mobile. Off the field, the gulf between BCS and non-BCS is vast.

I do want to say that I don't think NU is ducking a match-up with NIU. I just don't think NIU fits in with the schools we're scheduling now. The next few years are filled with BCS peer schools (and Rice), one FCS school a year (everyone is doing it), and, starting in a few years, one Pac-12 team per year.

Good luck on Sunday!

I agree the peer school scheduling is a great idea for NU but...We do both have an openings in 2016 & 2019! How about a 1-1!

Peer scheduling may be nice, but what about geography? These schools are so close that it just makes sense for them to play each other. That's why NIU fans feel the way they do. And it's especially galling to see NU teams play other MAC schools on the road. Come on.
