RE: Alumni Association.
Wana try again, broncofan1?
I know it was not a good weekend for many of our favorite teams,
but you should be over it by know.
So, why are you in hiding?, or still in morning?, still at work?
Still confused as to what to say to the President, or anyone else?
Since you'e there, and I'm here, perhaps you could investigate and report back.
"What are the "BIG PLANS"?
Of course, if there aren't any BIG PLANS, and all this money is being collected is simply to fund the WMU Alumni Collection Agency, we'd like to know that too.
Feel free to comment on the leadership/lack of leadership or direction also.
Are you really an employee/
Your friends and colleagues must really enjoy this discussion.

RE: Alumni Association.
Where is broncofan1?
Has anyone seen our Chief Investigator and Campus Reporter?
Are there any of his acquaintances, colleagues, any friends that know his whereabouts?
Many of us have assumed that he's still investigating the existence and content of the "BIG PLANS".
Perhaps, we could have an update on the "wonderful things" we are to look forward to.........When?
BTW, what's happening with the "high recommended" (by Mr. Small)
replacement for Mr. Small?
Are there any more informational meetings planned in the near future to fool the faithful Alumni?
No Conspiracy Meetings are scheduled in the near future.
We'll all be at the home football games. Look for us.

RE: Alumni Association.
Whoa, what the heck?
I asked you to clarify your statements and you make me into your investigative reporter...to clarify YOUR STATEMENTS??? How exactly does that work again?
As for what's happening with Smalls' replacement, all I've heard is that it's toxic over there. Smalls was just the first of many to have left.
NO, I don't work for Alumni/Development, nor do I have anything to do with them. Hence, the reason I've been asking you why you're so mad. I ask you for clarity, you tell me to ask the President. I ask what you want me to ask the President, you call me a 'chief investigator'. I can't tell if you're delusional, or just a troll.

There has always been a feeling just the opposite of "inclusiveness" in the WMU Community, like you said, "just send money" is the prevailing attitude that you get from those guys, including the WMU Alumni leaders.
What happens to them after this play? Do they stay intact and rule the new "Family"? Why did this happen, (compelling event)?
A straight answer to this very pointed question would have sufficed a LONG TIME AGO

RE: Alumni Association.
We meet again Professor Moriarty.........
My friends and colleagues are quite amused by all this banter.
Apparently, a few observers and participants have failed to note the
"smily faces" as a hint of the attempted effort to interject some humor
into the discussion.
Several months ago, I noted those profound "Words of Wisdom"......
"Take what you do seriously,
Don't take yourself too seriously,
Some people have it backwards!
Some observations and comments made to me have also suggested that a
certain person may be a resident of the South Campus, and out on a pass?
The "EVENT" that precipitated all this interest in Alumni Relations was
the attempt by WMU personal to BS their way through the meeting in Berkley last fall.
What a joke.
And apparently, the joke continues.
Some of these "jokesters" are making signifiant salaries too.
Once again, more "Words of Wisdom".........
"The value of academic achievement
is often diminished by a lack of education."
In the future, I'll try to speak slower, refrain from multi-syllable words,
and cut back on the metaphors.
"And the Beat Goes On!"
Well, maybe I won't.

I feel like I'm watching an episode of Batman and Robin.
"Riddle me this Batman."
How bout just stating your beef with some CLARITY.
For example, what was on the agenda at your meeting in Berkley. Who spoke and specifically what did they say. You seem to be focused on BIG PLANS they talked about. What exactly did they say or not say regarding those big plans? How long has it been since those big plans were presented to you? Was there any hint as to what those BIG PLANS were?
If you can lay out a tangible case along with the names of people to contact than perhaps people here could email that person or whomever has replaced that person and pose the same question to him/her.
Belittling people because they don't know what the hell you're talking about is NEVER THE FAULT OF YOUR AUDIENCE. It always falls on the messenger.

Try re-reading the threads.....
The point is, we were lied to......
There are and were NO BIG PLANS............
Talk to the Director, if you can catch him..........
Other than the departed Mr. Small, we didn't take names,
we took people at their word.

It would help if you would talk in specifics, i.e. who spoke at your meeting, who has replaced them, did anyone ask what those BIG PLANS might be? I don't have a clue if the big plans refer to your SE MI group, to a rebuilding of East Campus, to an enormous donation that will effect the school in general...............haven't a clue as to what the BIG PLANS were in reference to.

RE: Alumni Association.
Who is in Charge?
The discussion revolved around the lack of activities outside of western Michigan and the concentration of events in Grand Rapids.
The "cover-up" story/excuse was that GR was a pilot project.
And that there were "Big Plans" for SE Michigan.
Mr. Small was in charge, with several minor associates in attendance.
That was last fall.
The lack of a functioning Alumni Association and activities beyond western Michigan should be enough to shame someone into addressing the problem.
Of course, if this isn't seen as a problem, just "send money" will prevail.

BLOCKED!
Apparently, my efforts to e-mail a friend, a Mr. John Dunn,
the Alumni Association thread have been blocked.
Perhaps, an un-blocked Alumni, who is also concerned about establishing a
functioning Alumni Association, instead of a Collection Agency, could
e-mail the thread to Mr. Dunn.
It's beginning to look like a case of "age discrimination" to me.
(I''s a joke, lighten up)

RE: Alumni Association.
i still think it's funny, I started out at Lawrence Tech before going to western, and was paying about $32k a year. I have some friends that just graduated, are about $120k in student debt, and got called the week after they graduated asking for donations. a few of them straight up told the caller to f*** off. I mean, i know it's not the caller's fault, they're just doing their job. But you think that a university's marketing dept would know better.

RE: Alumni Association.
That's the Problem........
Its called The Office of Development and Alumni Relations.
Apparently there's no concern about anything but the money!
Who's ever supposed to be in charge doesn't know what they're doing.
This effort to grub money from the Alumni, with no existing Alumni Association, so those insulted by this mindless activity
can voice their opinions to an official web site.
The good thing about this site, although primarily devoted to university athletics, it involves WMU students and Alumni that are
actively involved with Western.
Take a shot.........e-mail the Pres !

RUMOR HAS IT THAT...........
this thread has been forwarded to the Pres.
Hopefully, those of you that are offended and disappointed by recent events,
(and lack of Alumni Events) will continue to voice your opinions on this web site, and
directly to the Pres.
BTW, what ever happened to the Sarcastic Thrower of Stones?
You may recall, I am NOT the Campus Reporter and Chief Investigator!
What ever happened to the Defender of the Pious and Sarcastic?
Did they finally enroll in a Remedial Reading / Reading Comprehension Class at an
Adult Education Facility?
"Let's go visit the Penguin."

RE: Alumni Association.
DIALING FOR DOLLARS
Apparently, there are three position openings in the
Office of Development and (Lack of) Alumni Relations.
If one has significant experience resting money from people, this could be you.
In each job description, the emphasis is on getting money from Alumni and other unsuspecting targets.
In each job listing there is not a mention of establishing or conducting Alumni Informational Events, Alumni Chapters nor improving deteriorating
Alumni Relations.
Surveying the targets of these activities, Alumni and others, as to their interests, and opinions of how they wish to be "treated" would go a long way in
avoiding the negative backlash currently underway.
Being "socially engaged" as opposed to a "confrontational / telephone solicitation" tactic, would probably be more beneficial, and cause less alienation
in the long run.
Road Trip!
See you at the game Saturday.
