Marquette Loses to LSU
LSU defeated #10 Marquette at home today 67-59, even with two of LSU's starters not scoring a point. Makes that victory for us look even better! Should be a nice RPI booster.

I was thinking the very same thing. LSU will give us a nice bump in RPI.

Right now, I'm beginning to have a twinge of excitement about this team. They may end up being far better than anyone would have suspected.

I am excited and do think this team can do some very good things, however we are still all new to each other and have some young guys that we count on, so I still do expect them to make dumb mistakes along the way. But, there is a TON of potential here!

The LSU win was nice. Maybe they will help us out during conference play too by knocking off some of the higher ranked SEC teams.

Sagarin has us at 92 and conference at 16. Gotta get the win against San Diego. Our RPI won't budge much once conference play begins.

Only way the Jags could get an atlarge bid is if they win out from here up until the SBC Tourney semifinals or finals. I thought I remembered Utah State doing that a couple seasons ago and the selection committee still let them in. Tall task for the current Jags team with the stretch coming up. The conference is stronger this season than it has been the past couple.

I think if we can manage just the 3 ooc losses and go through the conference play with just 2-3 losses we should be able to atleast hope for an at large.

A strong showing in the conference tourny will help as well, even if we don't win it.

The good thing is that the 3 teams we have lost to will probably all make the tourny.

I don't want to rain on the excitement, but an at-large bid for ANY Sun Belt team is a pipe dream, as it stands right now. Joe Lunardi's projections which are usually a fairly good gauge of what the selection committee will do, has only 1 SBC team, and they are a 16 seed.

If the tourney champ can only muster a 16 seed, then an at large is probably asking a lot right now.

If we get to February and are still at 5 losses or less, then we may be able to at least make an interesting argument. We really need MTSU and Denver to excel the rest of the way, and lose to us as their only losses from here on out. That certainly would help.

Plus, whoever gets the ESPN bracketbuster invite from the SBC needs to win that game as well.

The latest Bracketology has Denver as a 14 seed in the tournament. But I could see MTSU easily taking that spot after their impressive win at Ole Miss, albeit a middle of the pack SEC team. And improving their tournament seed in the process.

The good news is the conference is stronger this season. Yes, wins over Denver and MTSU are a must for the Jags to even get considered for an atlarge (a split with MTSU would be okay). But if the Jags do go 15-1 or 14-2, an atlarge is not out of the question IMO.

The Sun Belt doesn't participate in the BracketBusters.

Skully, I actually forgot that the Sun Belt does not participate in Bracketbusters. Good catch.
