Actually the guy who posted that was a guy who went to ULM (then NLU) in the 70s, hence the name SOT1977 (Sound of Today 1977). He also lives in Australia. People shouldn't assume that something is snark automatically. Not to get into a p*ssing contest, but explain to me how you think "how far is Lafayette for the NO bowl" and "about 45 minutes on I-10 I believe" is snark and not just a mistake? Unless you are looking for a reason to be upset with a comment from someone then I just don't see it. My point is unless you are looking for a reason to fire back, whether it is a real or perceived slight, no one would be taking that as a swipe at anything. That was his first post in the thread so there was nothing to be "read" into his comment.

Here is a personal example. Zeebart and I have shared a few zingers back and forth. We have had traded some PM traffic. I know when his comments are snark or he is trying to draw blood. I can also separate his good/thoughtful comments. Take each post at face value and go from there. If you or I or anyone on here is looking for an insult then we are sure to find it. If we don't go in looking for an insult we see things a heck of a lot more clearer.

John, I didn't react to his statement. flash did. flash was wrong to respond in the way he did. You and I have no disagreement there. SOT has shot his share of zingers in other places. I don't believe for a minute that his intent was innocent. His snark was weak, but it was still snark. Again, I have no issue with you if you feel differently.

I know you didn't react to his statement. I am making my comments in general. But you are trying to bring in comment made at other times to see insult/snark where most anyone else would not. That is why I made my comment about Zeebart and myself. Everyone should take a deep breath and step back before firing off comments. We see what we want to see and if looking for insult will find it in even the most innocent of comments.

NO ONE here has EVER expressed any desire to be the 'flagship' of anything. Considering the crappy job LSU [not their legal name, by the way] does of it, who would want to be identified as such?

The only claims that I have seen to 'flagship' status by anyone but LSU [not their legal name] have come from Tech [not their legal name] fans on BBB.

That's false logic. There are two University of Louisianas . When it was decided that a name change was to occur, both agreed not to call themselves U of L. You are not University of Louisiana and I think time will prove that to you. Your insistence on calling yourself that is an implication of Flagship status. We have been Tech forever and no one seems to have a problem with that. Everybody not affiliated with ULL does have a problem with calling you UL or U of L.

ESPN is advertising your bowl game as Louisiana-Lafayette - just sayin'.

I'm not throwing gas on the fire. I'm simply showing my support for ULM. It has been well documented on this board that pretty much everything is fair game unless it is a derogatory school name. The only deragotory name that seems to always get ignored is the "Monroe JUCO" reference.

It's Viginia Polytechnical University and Georgia Institute of Technology. That looks like a one way street to me. Neither of these universities are trying in vain to lay claim to the University of Louisiana System like ULL is. We have been Louisiana Tech since 1967.
