EMU's 1995 Football Season
Probably the most interesting, maybe frustrating, heartbreaking, etc. (probably more than this season) football season I can remember.

This team was loaded with talent. Some of it made it to the NFL: L.J. Shelton, Lional Dalton, Barry Stokes, etc. Some of it, e.g., Stevie Clay, was too small to play in the NFL but could light up the MAC.

Go to page 171 of the media guide.

At the END of the previous season ('94) EMU ran off 4 consecutive wins including a thriller vs. UT.

At one point EMU in '95 was 4 - 0 in the MAC and had taken UNLV to the woodshed (51-6). Played pretty well against Syracuse and Pitt. There was a huge crowd for the UNLV game (maybe in the range of 23 - 25K with NO Pepsi ticket sales - these were attendees).

Maybe, the script parallels what the Lions did last year running off a win streak and then starting 5 - 0 before collapsing.

If I remember correctly the showdown game was EMU @ UT with the MAC lead on the line.

EMU lost and lost a few more conference games to limp home at 6 - 5 after starting 5 - 2.

I hope we are getting close to a repeat with a team capable of going on a run in the MAC.

Rasnicks teams were frequently very good offensively, and with Steve Clay returning kicks, we might have been the best in the nation. But Clay was spending way too much time returning KOs than punts.

Those defenses were very aggressive and high risk. They'd blitz like crazy and get appropriately burned. That seemed to me to be Rasnick's eventual undoing.
