BYU being unreasonable? Their brass portrayed as a piece of work? Surely this article is talking about someone else.

Seriously, how can this possibly come up after weeks of work? Wasn't this the obvious issue to be dealt with FIRST? Without having an answer on this, everthing else risks being a waste of time, which it clearly was. Why do they work this way?

My impression is that the first line of negotiators at BYU (the president and AD) were on the same page and they thought they had a deal done with the Big East. When they took it up to get it approved by the Board of Trustees, they got shot down and were told to demand Terms X, Y and Z. Unlike many schools where the Board of Trustees is more of a rubber stamp entity, BYU seems to have an active interventionist board.

You never know, I suppose, but when Big East sources call up their favorite sportswriters to anonymously throw BYU under the bus, that means it's probably not going to happen.

So pretty much done with the Trans-Continental Conference. Time to tell Boise, sh!t or get off the pot. At this point, I'm saying add Houston, SMU, UCF for sure.

Add Memphis, ECU, Temple and USM along with them. I know it's not going to happen, but it's time to do something.

its hilarious that the bcs may go back to the old bowl system and the big east is taking super small schools with no fanbases from all across america instead of teams like ecu.

what bowl would want the big east? that charlotte bowl? oooh yeah rutgers or louisville might be nice but you might also get SAN DIEGO STATE HOUSTON OR BOISE

It's not game over yet. Posturing in the media and leaking selective information to bloggers have become effective tools of leverage in conference realignment negotiations. I still expect BYU and the Big East to eventually work something out because both parties will be better off.

This pursuit of western teams will end up being a disaster. San diego state brings nothing to the table. Boise is one bad coaching hire from being average. The AQ will go away and this will be a disaster. The big east is so desperate and it is embarrassing. It amazes me how the existing schools can sit the room and think sdsu is a good idea. Nothing against them...just not a good fit.

The BE is killing their basketball strength and identity to become average in football.
A good organization plays to their strengths. The big east is killing their strength.

Smu, Houston, ucf, temple, ecu, Memphis, and southern miss bring the most stability and cohesiveness.

If BCS AQ rules go away what advantage does BYU have joining the Big East?

Remember when part of the problem with Memphis was that it was too far west?

I suspect the Big East would take the Las Vegas Bowl and the Poinsettia in San Diego to support the group of western additions.

This would be true in 99% of these cases, but from what I have read BYU is the odd man out. Their "final say" board have their own agenda and could care less about football vs "spreading the word." If it happens, they will get their way.
