RE: Troy
UAB is averaging 9 assists per game thus far, which is good for 322nd in the country. I think that's a function of both poor PG play and large roster turnover. Hopefully more time spent playing together will fix this issue. I think we can enter conference play much better than we are now.

Williams should start, and all the players on the floor at the end of the game should start our next game. They are the more experience and seasoned group minus Q.Taylor. They are all upperclassmen, they were aggressive and played much faster together, where I believe the teams strength may be.
Purifoy continues to show he can make plays both defensively and offensively, Tyler is a scorer, attacks the basket and brings energy and he is still learning to play the position, Williams rebounds is a tough defender and shot freethrows well, Cam and Soko brings a combination of all the above.
This line up allows for more firepower off the bench while giving the less season players time to adjust to the speed of the game.

Can't agree more. I was going to make this point as well. KC has not impressed me much, and I think Davis may have put too much on him too early. He needs to be a three point shooting role player off the bench. Swing is a good player and will be even better with time, but he does not play good D nor rebound. QT is obviously in a slump - no need to beat that dead horse anymore.

RW - plays good D and rebounds. Can't shoot a lick, but gives us the things this team really needs.

PP - an all around good player. Shoots a very high percentage, and can make the big shot. He does everything well. He needs more than the 18 minutes he got last night. For the life of me, I do not understand why Davis does not play him more. It drives me up the wall.

JKT - somewhat flawed in parts of his game and he's still raw. However, he at least gets after it when he's on the court. He will play D, try to create some offense for himself, and will play at a faster tempo. The team simply looks better, for the most part, when he is out there vs. when QT is playing.

OS and CM - we know what they bring. They need as many minutes as possible, but Davis has got to sub in ASW or HH some more off the bench. This strategy of giving both these guys 40 minutes a game will eventually bite us in the ass.

KC, Swing, and QT need to come off the bench. Davis has got to play our best personnel the most minutes and let these guys play a little faster. He may be the most hard headed coach I've ever witnessed. We could have Memphis's roster, and he'd still try to make us play this grind it out, shoot a prayer at 2 seconds left on the clock type of offense.

A win is a win, but beating Troy by 12 is not impressive, IMO. This team has still got to get much better. I'm praying for a win against Wichita, but unless we don't improve drastically, I'm not counting on it.

Couldn't agree more. I think CMD see's a little hesitance in PP. That's why he keeps him out. PP can sort of get lost in the mix sometimes when he is on the court. No question he is a great defender. Am I the only one who feels that our defense looks really great? Even in our two loses, we defended well.

RE: Troy
Our defense in the first game was not as sharp as it should be (but it's the first game). We still get lost on ball screens, leaving perimeter shooters open. That's the main reason Troy was over 50% from three last night. I doubt we'll see a team shoot that well from beyond the arc on us for the rest of the season.

Which makes me wonder...if that guy's been the coach for Troy for 30 years, what in the f did he do before there was a three-point line?

Preston Purifoy is averaging 7.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, <1 assist and block per game, and 0.3 turnovers, while shooting an astounding 46.2% from the floor, 55.6% from three, and 100% from the freethrow line, while only playing 19.3 minutes per game. He's only attempting 4.3 field goals per game.

KC Whitaker - 4.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.7 turnovers, and 1.3 assists per game, while shooting 22.2% from the field, 26.7% from three, and 33.3% from the line, while playing 17.3 minutes per game. He's attempting 6.0 shots per game.

Jordan Swing - 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.0 turnovers, and 0 assists per game. He shoots 34.8% from the field, 33.3% from three, and 80% from the line. He plays about 31 minutes per game and attempts 7.7 shots per game.

Purifoy is averaging basically the same stats as Swing, on significantly less minutes and shots. He's also only one inch shorter than either of those guys, and is the heaviest, so probably the strongest. He's no pushover on the boards or on D, like both of these guys are, either.

Draw your own conclusions as to who deserves more and who deserves less minutes..

RE: Troy
The starting lineup was Cam, Ovie, Quincy, Swing, and KC. They have a certain rythm that was slow and steady (little movement, though, especially inside). The lineup for the last 7 minutes (or so) of the game was Cam, Ovie, Pres, Jekore, and Rob our best defensive lineup and our most athletic lineup - high energy. I kinda like the contrast between the two lineups - lulling the opponent into a certain pace and then squeezing them late in the game. The late game lineup got to the loose balls and forced the game. That may be our best overall lineup, but I don't know I'd change up so dramatically this early in the season. Perhaps gradually moving towards this. KC's starting seems to be a way to get him going. Whenever he doesn't have it and misses some shots he gets pulled for a while - keeping his confidence level high which is important for a freshman. In the last game, the same applied to Swing. I did see CMD yell at Swing for being too lackadaisical on the floor, which Swing has a tendency to do. I will say this, though - if we get ANY inside help next year our guards are gonna flat-out destroy some teams! Late this season won't be a picnic for them either. The guys just have to learn how to play together.

All I know is David Crane hates it when Taylor, Tyler, Williams and Williamson is in there at the same time. 03-lmfao
