We Need a Plan
We need to start putting together a report. Jon Solomon has a point. Alabama Systems Financial reports and UA Financial Report to 2010. The 2011 Report should be out soon. We need Trustees if you read how members get on the board. The Governor etc.

Why not just ask the UA System Office? It's on the financial summary. Obviously no one is trying to hide it.

Does the governor appoint trustees? He is an alabama graduate too. Duh! He is a good ole' boy, too, and don't tell me they don't scratch each others backs. They do, for "their best interests".

The state and various local governments contract with the universities for various services. I believe that's what that payment is. Grants for research come under a different heading (because that number would be octuple that for federal research grants)

We'd have gotten a helluva lot more traction on this issue with Byrne or Davis.
Just sayin'.

Day 23 since the BOT meeting!
Anybody seen/heard from Mackin?
Didn't think so?
His job is on the line. First he has to do whatever Dr. Garrison says, and secondly whatever the two of them decide to do they have to do tactfully. They can't just run to Tuscaloosa and tell Paul Bryant Jr to f off. To counter the arguments against the project, whether they're correct or not, they have to work to show how they have plans to deal with it. I have zero inside information, but I would suspect they're probably putting more details together, refuting specific points, etc. on the plan and then privately speaking with trustees just as they did with the plan previous to it becoming public knowledge. If they can convince enough trustees to support it again, get it on the agenda. All of that has to happen behind closed doors. Dr. Garrison can't post on her twitter "Met with James Wilson today. He's skeptical but I'm going to meet with him tomorrow again!". The NAS is already calling for people to support the project, call people, etc. and I think that is the only avenue that UAB administration will publicly communicate with us right now. The Athletics department can't start a fundraising campaign until it's approved by the Board, and it would be detrimental to the project if the University itself told people to lobby for the project (and could possibly be illegal if you considered it political activity, which advocating changes to the makeup of the Board could be)

Well, he COULD go out in a blaze of glory, be canned on Monday, and replaced with a yes man on Tuesday.

This fight is a lot bigger than one person. I guess I am in the minority when it comes to Mackin hiding and begging for his job. Thank goodness for real leaders that in the face of adversity, didn't keep quiet and act like there is no 900 lb gorilla in the room.

What good does it do for him or Dr. Garrison to issue a public statement (which would basically have to amount to calling their bosses bald faced liars) and then get fired the next day? They're unemployed & can't fight for the stadium anymore, and their replacements will have 3 diplomas that say Tuscaloosa at the bottom of them.
Now, I know that they've called Dr. Garrison out, and I would hope that she's standing up for herself behind closed doors and is getting a little tougher, but it just still floors me how callous people are with other people's jobs. If jobs are so meaningless, why don't you go quit your job right now? Dr. Garrison doesn't have any children, but Mackin probably has a family to take care of, and I doubt he wants to just stick his fingers in the eyes of Paul Bryant Jr. and Finis St. John and walk away. It would do absolutely no good, except to make you feel better for about a day, until you realized things were worse than before.
