Well to say 70/30 would be to imply that someone actually had knowledge to the real situation and outside of a few AD's, college presidents and the massive brain trust in Providence, I doubt anyone else has any more knowledge that just a guess which is the 50/50.

That would be close to 200 million per year. If the last offer was 1.4 billion for 9 years, and since then the big east has lost pitt, syracuse, tcu and wvu, I just don't see it happening. If the last deal was for 33 million per year, I can maybe see it doubling, but not much more

Well then, thank god BE is not counting on you for any common sense. Just wait and see what BE will end up with. I am guessing it will be a lot closer to the numbers I predicted.

For the record, the deal BE turned down from ESPN would have paid BE football schools roughly $15.3M per year. You really think BE will settle for much less in an open market?

Let's put it this way, if you're going to pay for a 30 second spot, are you going to pay the same for a big east football game as a big 12, pac 12, SEC or big 10 game? Outside of the big east fans, there isn't too much demand for big east football, especially with out wvu, pitt or tcu

Actually you have inadvertantly swerved into the truth here. You are correct, outside of the east there was limited interest in Big East football. Thats why the move to the west was actually brilliant. They added some winning programs that will make the Big East relevant in the west, where they were not before. As has already been proven, the 140-160 will still be less than other stronger confernces for football. For basketball, the Big East is THE premier conference, so yes, they will get signficantly MORE than other conferences for thier basketball contract.

I don't think the move was for exposure, I believe it was done to keep the AQ status, because with out AQ status, the big east would have as much appeal as the MWC did with BYU, Utah and TCU. Houston, SMU and UCF, do not bring in a brand name, and out of the expansion candidates, only BSU brings a brand, which oddly enough, loses appeal the more they win.

The inventory argument doesn't grab my attention for football, as it is, all the major conferences are playing on all the espn networds non stop on saturdays, but I guess you could fill in the tuesday, thursday slots. I just don't see the value, with out adding brand names.

In some ways I do feel bad for the big east, because I'm sure espn's manipulation is the reason why teams left the big east, but for that reason alone, I think the big east will suffer when negotiating a new TV deal.

Again, you are failing to look at the entire picture. ESPN has plenty of football, but they want more. Perhaps even more importantly, they dont want any competion, and that is exactly what Comcast and Fox are angleing to do. You are entitled to your opinion, but if the Big East is quoting 8-12 to the prospective schools, you can bet they have something better to back it up than an internet bulletin board post. These guys have TV consultants and former TV executives in tow at these meetings. They have a much better handle on it than you are I and they are quoting the 8-12 million per team (football only). Ive given you the reasons that the contract will be much better, but clearly Im not going to convince you so---you will just have to wait and see.

Apparantly the BE wants to announce all the teams at once. The UCF president agreed to that, but is getting frustrated by the delays. He wants to go ahead and announce the ones who are set---

Where do all you USM fans get this 50/50 thing from?

It comes from multiple sources, various media and some folks who are close to programs at some of the prominent football programs. Those sources have been absolutely correct on every one of the realignment decisions going back a couple of years, including the Missouri to the SEC over everyone else before the press was reporting Missouri as even a candidate, and the fact that the Big 12 was not going to break up over the loss of A&M and Missouri but was going to add TCU and WVU. They may be wrong this time, but if so it will be the first.

You may ask why would anyone be so interested? Well, in the Deep South, college football is a religion all its own.

Depends on what 50/50 means. If you mean its 50/50 that the Big East will expand--then thats not correct. If it's 50/50 that every team mentioned is going to be part of the Big East expansion, I might could buy that. When the president of one of the schools says that at least 3 (maybe 4 of the teams-depends on how you read his comments) of the deals are already done, that pretty much says the Big East is expanding.

Yes, I know it is my opinion, I guess the problem I have is that you guys are trying to treat this similar to an IPO and trying to value the big east (stock price) on comparable measures as the other major conferences value. The big east isn't something new to the public, so you gotta go with the assets you have. When a company is undervalued the major reason is because of intangible assets, in this case it would be branding, and branding is the problem the big east has. I guess we'll never agree, so we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Careful they also have an agenda. If you are trying hard to woo somebody you are probably going to use the best numbers you can find even if they are dubious. Whether they are right or not I am certain the numbers they are feeding the schools they want are the best they can find and not necessarily the most likely numbers.

Mmmm-probably...Also pretty likely the schools approached are getting thier own 3rd party estimates. I see 6 million per school for football only as a rock bottom worst case the sky is falling senario for the rebuilt Big East. Thats about double what they are getting now (im guessing that because CUSA doubled thier contract this year when they signed with Fox). However, I think the additional teams are better than the replacement teams, bring larger markets, and create interest for the Big East in the western US, which was completely untapped by the conferences original configuration. Add to that additional bidders and a rejected offer of 15 million per team, I just see the Big East doing at least 8-12 for football only--perhaps better.

They should have a bunch of "second opinions" if they have any sense and that may make this take a while. Unlike fans the schools can't afford to get swept up in the hype. They are the ones being affected if they believe the wrong person.

The fact that there is frustration that they can't announce, and that the biggest backdrop in college football just passed by, and this time line when you know 3 of those schools are dying to jump on board should be enough to tell you they are conditional bids.

The real question remains: who pulled the plug on the academies, navy, air force, the big east bball schools, Boise, tv, etc.
