The official papers should be signed and delivered by the end of the week, and the divorce will be complete. Boston College will no longer be a member of the Big East. The school will finish its spring schedules in the conference, but then the Eagles will be free to fly to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

While the move has been an unofficial "done deal" since October, litigation involving the exit fee BC must pay was not resolved until the past few days. It won't be the $5 million the Big East requested, but it could be slightly more than the $1 million BC felt it was obliged to play.

Neither BC athletic director Gene DeFilippo nor Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese had definitive word last night on when the final papers would be delivered, but both felt it would be sooner rather than later.

"We've got to move on," said Tranghese.

In a way, BC already has moved on. The school was stripped of voting privileges in the Big East after it announced its withdrawal from the conference last fall and has had voting privileges in the ACC the past few months.

Good riddance. If you dont want to be in the BE, we dont want you in the BE. Its funny that the best year BC ever had in the BE fb wise was their last year.

What was beautiful about this was that BC could almost taste that BCS (Fiesta) Bowl until Syracuse smacked that taste out of their mouths.  :wwf:

Jackson; I could be wrong here, but I dont think that BC ever saw a new years day bowl since they were in the BE. There is the bcs and the gator as far as new years day bowls. We all know they were never in the bcs, but were they ever in the gator?

-- To my memory...the best Big East BC team was in 1993....Tom Couhlin was the HC and Glen Foley was the QB....the Eagles beat then #1 Notre Dame in South bend and rose to a top 10 in the rankings....but #3 ranked WVU beat them in Chestnut Hill the next week for the BE title...WVU went to the sugar bowl and I think BC ended up in the old Carquest bowl that yr

-- I don't think BC has been to a New Yrs day bowl/won the Lambert trophy since Doug Flutie

The Lambert Trophy is the award traditionally give to the "best team in the east"....all D1 schools north of the mason dixion line and east of Ohio are elgiable....however a school like WVU can become elgiable if it plays half its schedule against teams in the eastern region.....the award itself is very old and as I'm sure you have guessed Penn St has won it most yrs....although Miami did take it a lot when they were in the BE......I'm guessing Pitt took it last yr

-- It would have been nice if the BE football conference had adopted the lambert trophy when the league formed and given it to our champion but another opportunity to incoporate the traditions of eastern football into the BE football league was missed
