RE: Parking Garage
Inbreeding. Promoting from within so much that everyone is so used to doing everything the same way for so long that no new blood has really been in there. It's very Penn State-ish in that it's all the Good Ol' Boys Network with outsiders not really having a shot in hell at a heavy hitting decision makers job unless the state has some influence (See Dr. Noland). As long as that continues to happen, the status quo will remain and probably get worse.

RE: Parking Garage
I believe it's Rod who calls this "beating the dead horse". You know, questioning where the $12 million annually comes from and where it goes. Now Go will come on here and tell you that you can't compare soccer with football with relation to costs. He's, of course, right. However, when soccer and a few of the other minor sports are added together, there's your football program. And, no one yet has refuted the fact that football was killed in order to fully fund the minor sports. Thing about soccer was the timing and the in your face approach to establishing the program. Football was dropped and soccer was added soon after. A coincidence? I say no. I really believe Mullins and gang really enjoyed rubbing this in the faces of the football folks. Unfortunately, they are able to do as they please because of the near DEAD alumni and fan base. Let's face it, the only hope is Dr. Noland. Does he want to resurrect the alumni and fan base and put ETSU athletics front and center, or will he be satisfied with the status quo?

RE: Parking Garage
Actually, while I would love to see a new basketball arena as much as many, $23 million buys about 2/3 of a UVa-Wise arena. Not nearly enough for an ETSU sized arena.

Ok, you have $23 Million to spend....Do you?

a) Build a new basketball arena
b) Start a football team
c) Build a parking garage

The answer is C. There isn't $23 million to spend as folks see fit.

Let me clairfy, the student referendum that resulted in $23 million was whether or not they were willing to pay an increased parking fee in return for the construction of a student parking garage.

I am extremely confidant that abuc90 was asking a rhetorical question and knows that (a) the project is funded by students and (b) $23 million will not buy a new basketball arena.

Would this be an example of "value engineering"?

At this point, we aren't even sure that the second pic is what will be delivered.

RE: Parking Garage
Detailed renderings of the parking garage. I think it is pretty sad that interested parties have to go to the contractor's website to find them. Seems like a $26 million project would warrant a special page on ETSU's website.

Thought tennis complex was part of this project. With the parking project being paid for by the students, again, how is the tennis complex being funded? Has Mullins raised the cash to pay for it? Or, are student fees paying for it?

RE: Parking Garage
Im betting the moving of the tennis courts has been bundled into this deal- therefore making the student fees pay for it.

RE: Parking Garage
Six of the courts are designated for "public use." Who do you think is paying for it?
Seriously, are these rhetorical questions? SMDH

Sometimes I think university money just magically disappears.....or should I say gets pencil-whipped and mis-appropriated!

RE: Parking Garage
The students signed off on the garage knowing the tennis courts had to be relocated. All a part of it.
