I was trying to keep it like an East Coast conference that could have been. The 9 serious members woult produce a 8 game football and 16 game basketball seasons with everyone playing each other. I'm very happy with the addition of L'ville, nothing against them in my list.

Note: The Atlantic Coast Conference isn't a "southern based" conference. If it was, they would have kept the name "Southern Conference" back in the 50's when they split. The "Atlantic Coast" stretches from Florida to Boston. Kudos to John Swofford for finally realizing that fact. With that in mind....

DREAM CONFERENCE #1

ACC - Atlantic
-----------------
Boston College
Clemson
Florida State
Maryland
NC State
Rutgers
Wake Forest

ACC - Coastal
-----------------
Duke
Georgia Tech
Miami
North Carolina
Virginia
Virginia Tech
West Virginia

-----------------
DREAM CONFERENCE #2

Appalachian State
Central Florida
East Carolina
Florida Atlantic
Florida International
Marshall
Memphis
Middle Tennessee
Southern Miss
Troy
UAB

...and...

Fresno State!

Okay, we wouldn't win a lot of championships. But damn I'd like that conference...

I like that one alot, it'd make for a truely Eastern conference that would in the long run dwarf the ACC and rival the SEC and Big Ten. Figure we've got NJ, CT, NY, PA, WV, VA, NC, KY, OH, TN, and MD all covered.
That would be my goal. I think it makes a huge TV package. It would be strong in both football and basketball. 04-cheers

ACC - Coastal
NC State
Maryland
Wake Forest
Clemson
Miami, FL
East Carolina
Virginia

ACC - Atlantic
Duke
Georgia Tech
South Carolina
Florida State
UNC
Virginia Tech
Florida

Changes:
- Miami and FSU flip divisions
- BC gets das boot
- SC from the SEC
- FL from the SEC ... I really wanted Vandy, but they just didn't fit
It's nice to see that even an ACC fan acknowleges the absurdity of Boston College in a southern-based conference. Although at the risk of sounding hypocritical, I wouldn't have minded if Miami remained in the Big East. :D
I ultimately think the ACC made a mistake when adding Miami, Virginia Tech, and Boston College.

Miami, Syracuse, and Boston College was a better solution because the ACC could have grabbed a larger part of the northeast.

I feel that the ACC would have been better to grab Connecticut, Syracuse, and Boston College (or Rutgers). At least the ACC could claim a part of the northeastern market. The way it stands now, the ACC is the "ACC and Boston College".

Miami, Duke (The University of New Jersey - Durham), and a number of ACC school have large student populations from up north but, it seems improperly set up.

Another odd rumor going around when the ACC expanded was that Notre Dame was in the mix. Holy cow! The ACC plus the midwest?

Chess, does Duke really have that many students from Jersey?

"Duke" and "New Jersey" is a local North Carolina joke that has been around for years.

Obviously, Duke recruits students from all over. Locals, who are very proud of Duke, sometimes like to take swipes at the university. (UNC and Duke campuses are minutes away from each other)

New Jersey, although not deserved, has a reputation. Sometimes New Yorkers refer to New Jersey as an armpit, etc... much like people make fun of West Virginia and "relatives", or Chicago natives talking about the "cheeseheads" from Wisconsin.

***Have I offended enough people with these statements?***

When locals make fun of Duke, they sometimes refer to it as the University of New Jersey-Durham. They may also refer to Duke as "that Yankee school". Locals also make fun of Duke ("Doot" or "Doo-ook") because some people have difficulty saying "Duke".

***When you have to explain a joke, it isn't very funny.... Jeez! Tough crowd.***

Some other "swipes" at local schools...

"Moo U" is NC State
"UNC- by the K Mart" is UNC-Wilmington because UNCW has a K Mart next to campus
"EZU" or "Easy U" is East Carolina because of the perception by some locals that East Carolina is a party school and easy to get into. In fact, ECU is just a big state school.
UNC-Chapel Hill is usually made fun of because of its ultra liberal campus and snob fans. Some may refer to them as "wine and cheese crowd" or "Tarholes". Think of UNC-CH as Cal-Berkeley with a good basketball team.

Gotcha. And I do know what people say about Jersey even though its a small little area of Jersey that would appear to give them credibility. There are so many nice areas of Jersey up in the Highlands in northwest Jersey, the Pinelands and Shore areas of Central and Southern Jersey.

Dream Conf. would be:

UC
OSU
Michigan
UofL
UK
IU
PITT
Notre Dame
Tenn.
IL.

This would have a great balance of football and basketball and is in a fairly tight region.....

UC, OSU, PSU, Pitt, UM, MSU, UK, UL, IU, PU, Illinois, Northwestern

How'd that suffice?
