NORFOLK --
A 96-yard, scoop-and-score play by defensive back Doug Howell and a one-handed snag in the end zone by Stephen Barnette gave the University of Richmond a chance to knock off Old Dominion in a CAA Football game on Saturday at Foreman Field.

But the Monarchs used their quick-paced offense to keep the Spiders unsettled defensively and won 42-28.

NORFOLK — Old Dominion's players say they will spend little time considering the "P" word, so allow coach Bobby Wilder to speak for them.

Asked if he believed his team clinched a playoff spot with Saturday's 42-28 win against Richmond, the head Monarch said simply, "I do."

"Based on the history of the CAA, the reputation of the CAA," Wilder said, "generally seven wins gets you in the conversation and eight wins means that you're in."
