They can wait it out the Big 12 or Pac will eventually call them. The only thing the BE does is make it more expensive for them to accept when the call comes. They are a valuable commodity and won't be left out when the chips fall into place over the next 3 or 4 years.

Because we're due even with the defections for a contract of around 15 to 17 million per year per football school. They're only making 8 million per year on their ESPN deal.

The highest offer the BE got was for 120 million a year. With 12 schools thats only 10 million a school. If you take into account the BE doesn't distribute equally the all sports schools receive more around the 13 to 15 you mentioned that would mean BYU as a football only member would receive around 6 million.

The offer was made before the three defections. Since then the BE renewed their contract with no changes. They may be able to get the money back up to 120 mil with the addition of some quality teams but I doubt it. Their basketball is diluted and all the football teams they are adding may be good but have small market shares. Being spread out as far as they are will help bring viewership up.

That was also with 9 assumed football schools not 12 or 14. More markets brings more sets and therefore more money.

FYI...ESPN and the Big East have not renewed their TV contract...as it still is set to expire after the 2012-2013 season.

As noted earlier, Big East rejected ESPN's new bid back in May...but ESPN still holds negotiation rights for at least another 6 months beofre FOX, NBC/Comcast & CBS can start offering tv deals for the 2013-2014 season.

The original offer was 140 million, not 120. Like the above poster stated. it was for 8 teams, not 12. The new Big East now offers games in 3 time zones, not one. And most importanantly, the new Big East actually would offer a programs with greater national appeal Boise and BYU. Not to mention there are now 2 additional bidders and new additional large markets. This contract is going to be much larger than the old one and probably more than the 140 million already offered. Im guessing 160 million.
