Nevada: Dark horse expansion candidate
Maybe its just me but I think Nevada has a shot for football only.

Only remaining MWC/CUSA team that has been ranked in the Final BCS Top 25. (2010 BCS Poll #18) That equates to some BCS points.

Best football school in the state, might deliver the whole state with Boise rivalry.

It's another football only invite so you don't have as many problems that come up. Adding Temple or ECU brings full membership questions.

Has been invited to bowl games every year since 2005. Has history playing against Boise State, more than Air Force does.

Why not Hawaii? Change the name of the league to the Big Far East.

I've always liked Nevada football ... that said, they need a $20mil improvement program for their athletic facilities.

I've actually thought of this one too. Yes I can see the millions reasons they won't be, but on the flip side, long term, it has higher growth potential than a lot of other potential members. It's a growing state and might be able to attract state wide support. That's worth something a purely city school can't necessarily provide. That said, they are probably 2nd in the state right now to UNLV so that kind of makes it hard.

Lay off Frank. He's correctly predicted 10 of the last 5 expansion moves.

I'm also 100% correct 10% of the time!

In all seriousness, why not Nevada?

(1) Flagship school

(2) Fast growing state

(3) No other in-state AQ competition

(4) BCS points from 2010

(5) Natural Western rival for Boise State and Air Force

Since we ought to assume that geography is irrelevant from this point forward (at least with respect to any football-only invites), Nevada certainly isn't crazier than any other suggestion when we're already talking about Boise State in the Big East.

Good enough points to convince me. I'd like BYU #1 but would take Nevada as well. Seems more worthy than USM or ECU.

Nevada is great.

Except it can't draw 20K per game.

East Carolina is a much better candidate.

Isn't that the same knock people have on UH and SMU?

We don't have that knock anymore. Its been at least 4 years since we had low attendance.. That is in the rear view mirror for us. I find it funny that people from other schools continuely bring something up that is far gone.

I really don't think Nevada has the facilities or fan support to be a serious contender.

In 2009, Nevada announced 17K and change.
In 2010, their glory year where they beat Boise, they announced 19K and change.
In 2011, they are announcing 18K and change.

All this in a small town (Reno) that offers very little competition for the sporting event dollar. This is the worst attendance in the future MWC.

I can't speak to SMU. At Houston, we've doubled our season ticket base in recent years are average over 31K per game - 3rd best in C-USA.

Sorry, when UCF gets 30k I consider it a disappointment. No flame.
