I forgot about needing a football only to make 14-18. That may be ECU's only chance. I'm not holding my breath....but I am keeping my fingers crossed.

9 catholic + 9 football = 18

+ 5 football only...army, navy, afa, boise, byu, make it 4 if nova jumps

thus, you can add memphis + st louis u and football only school's

USF & UCF
Houston & SMU

FOOTBALL-ONLY (4)
Navy & Air Force
BYU & Boise State

BASKETBALL (8)

Villanova will either play in an expanded PPL Park, or else play September home games at PPL Park, 4 Big East road games in October, and 4 Big East home games at the Phillies stadium in November. Temple doesn't control the Linc.

I concur with this only if you remove Villa Nova from the All Sports teams and place them in the Basketball schools.

In stead, add ECU and Memphis all Sports. This will give a 20 team BB Scedule wich is duable. It also adds some weight to the BB side of the house while giving more strength in numbers to the Football side in case of contraction later on. Just MHO. 04-cheers

I am just so discouraged by the organization and desperation of the Big East. I just don't like the set up and I'm not a fan of it.

You don't like it now...Wait until teams like USF, Cincy, and Rutgers are stuck in a western based Big East football conference when UCONN and you guys leave for greener pastures in a few years. I can not believe that the Big East leadership is allowing Boise St to basically restructure the entire Big East football conference into a western football league. Also people think that the Big East was a cluster of schools that could not agree on a damn thing last year....Wait until a year from now, imagine trying to get anything accomplished with all the different agendas that will be going on. The sad thing is that things are so desperate now for schools like ECU and other non-AQ schools we are all beating down the door to get into this cluster of a conference. College football has official "jumped the shark" with all of this realignment mess. It gets harder and harder to get excited about the future of college football.

That's why I don't care about BCS any longer. It's gone too far. It's made us forget why we like college sports. Is it for the competition against good rivals or is it to make money? There is so much more to my world than money! I would prefer to be in a great fitting non-BCS conference than... well... this. Each of the schools we brought in are great. But I'm just not a big fan of the scenario. I want a nice regional conference to fit into.

Don't hate the Sport or the Athletes. Hate the schools becuase after all, they're only businesses trying to make a buck. They have no loyalty to the fans and their only thought is of saving their jobs and increasing revenues. 03-shhhh

The Catholic basketball schools want absolutely nothing to do with East Carolina, and judging by every expansion vote in recent history, the rest of the league holds similar sentiments. There is also a contingent that does not want Memphis because they do not want to orient the league in too much of a Southern direction.

As for Villanova, we have seen over the last month that they hold a lot of stroke in the Big East, and they are not finished with their efforts to try to get their football included. I don't know if they will succeed, but it is a possibility, so I won't bury my head in the sand. There is no reason to have 20 basketball teams either.

There is no reson to have 24 BB teams either but, it was mentioned by Marinatto previously that it may be the case some day. Anyway all this is mere speculation until it's done. So why not those a few darts out there, maybe one or two may stick. 04-cheers

The league had certain needs to accomplish first to rebuild the Big East Conference football wise without a threat from the Mountain West or CUSA. ECU understands that. There is no leverage that can be placed. You ultimately want to be wanted by the league, no coerced. It's up to the Big East Conference members as to who to offer.

Nobody has waited longer than ECU. No one wants it more than ECU's alumni, fans, former players and coaches. No one has invested more to earn it. Well over 100 million dollars, two league titles, five straight bowls and 7,000 additional stadium fans since the last expansion alone. All one can ask is for the ECU contengent to not give up, avoid negative comments and see what occurs over the next few days. Actually give your ballclub a fair chance and give the league an opportunity to digest the idea. It takes great patience on everyone's part at this juncture.
If you want a Big East that will last, it's time to apply the glue.

RE: Big East could goto 14/18
Here's the fun part.

Most of us are assuming the Big East would get from 11/16 to 14/18 by adding one more football-only member and two more all-sports members. For example, BYU, Memphis and Temple.

But keep in mind that a football-only member plus a non-football member can substitute for an all-sports member.

So (for example) after adding BYU, instead of Memphis the conference could add San Diego State and Xavier. And instead of adding Temple, it could add Fresno State and Butler.

I could see something like that happening, because it would allow the conference to maximize its strength in both football and basketball. And allow both Louisville and Cincinnati to be placed in the eastern division for football, which would be preferable to both of them. And make Boise State very, very happy.
