2004 BG team that went 9-3 averaged 44. 3 ppg.

2003 Miami would have been in a BCS game using today's rules. Fairly impressive for a non-AQ team let alone a MAC team to be in that position even with one loss.

Right now these are the stats for 2011 for NIU and Toledo. As you can see, NIU's offense is only slightly higher than Toledo's, and the Rockets have played a tougher SOS.

Total Offense:
Toledo - 438.4
NIU - 463.4

Scoring Offense:
Toledo - 36.5
NIU - 38.5

You also have to take these stats with a grain of salt.

Chandler Harnish has missed a game's worth of playing time due to calling off the dogs early. So then our offense goes into conservative mode once we put in Lynch.

We did the same with Buffalo yesterday and it almost came back to bite us.

I still saw Toledo playing Page, Dantin, Marrow, and other starters in the 4th qtr despite being up a lot.

Right now this NIU offense is averaging 39.6 ppg and 482.7 ypg.

2011 NIU Offense: 39.6 ppg and 482.7 ypg.
2004 Bowling Green Offense: 44.3 ppg and 506.3 yp

Ryan must be very lazy, or this is the first year that he began following MAC footfall.
And Ryan, Omar Jacobs would like to have a few words. I believe cole magner, Chuck Sharon, Steve Sanders, PJ Pope and Shuan Suishum would also like a few moments of Ryan's time.

Not saying that Omar's 2004 team was the best, but I KNOW 2011 NIU has no business being mentioned.

No offence, I hope, just going off the numbers.

Well he is a Ball St graduate ;-) and but he is very young to be making these claims. Saying this is the best offense in the MAC the past 5 years...OK, maybe. I like reading his articles but I think his statement was more to appease us Huskie fans rather than give us an in depth historical analysis of the MAC.

The grain of salt works both ways. When your offense is playing against a solid Ohio State defense, great defenses in Boise State and Temple, and a pretty decent Syracuse team as opposed to NIU really only playing Wisconsin (great defense) that will skew the numbers a bit too.

Toledo also has played our 3rd string QB and 4th and 5th string RB's in a few games this year. The 3rd string QB played more than one quarter's worth against New Hampshire and basically the entire 4th quarter against Eastern Michigan as well. Our starting running back missed three straight games and only played for one play in another game because of injury, so you have to consider that too.

Part of that is because our coach has mixed some starters with 3rd and 4th team players in games when we've been way ahead to help these younger 3rd and 4th team players along instead of just putting 11 guys on the field at once that wouldn't normally play. The fact of the matter is that Toledo has played a lot of players in all games this year. Here is the participation numbers:

vs UNH - 69
@ OSU - 55
vs Boise St - 60
@ Syracuse - 55
@ Temple - 57
vs EMU - 59
@ BGSU - 53
vs Miami - 62
